Locking up the opposition party is authoritarian mob rule.

For Christian fundamentalists, being taught to suppress critical thinking begins at a very early age.
It is the combination of the brains vulnerability to believing unsupported facts and aggressive indoctrination that create the perfect storm for gullibility. Due to the brains neuroplasticity, or ability to be sculpted by lived experiences, evangelicals literally become hardwired to believe far-fetched statements.

(36,470 posts)One of the other ones has come around, & the second one is pretty quiet about all of it. But the zealot? He shouts his stupidity & ignorance all over his FB page, & like your 2nd point, he isn't even aware of how stupid he is. He is the most ignorant, the most uninformed, & the most hateful. I had to unfriend him cuz every post was about the lying left, the evil left, the hateful left, the violent left, the hypocritical left. A significant segment of our population is infected just like him & they equate democrats with Satan. It sounds crazy but they are deadly serious about their anti-gay/women/POC agenda.

(15,540 posts)Chilling, chilling, chilling.
I read the book when it came out, but watching the series is giving me goosebumps knowing that this is what the orange asshole and his old fart GOP men cohorts would just love to see happen in this country.

(15,540 posts)but I also think it's important for people to watch it to wake some of them up. Yes, there will be people who tell themselves it's only fiction, but maybe, just maybe there'll be lots of them who will think twice - especially young women.

By the way the second season was given a thumbs up by the author Margaret Atwood, because it explores her premise perfectly.

(32,639 posts)My son and daughter-in-law live in lower Manhattan and I usually visit them during the Christmas holidays. But I'm thinking maybe this year I'd like to come in January for the Women's March because it's such a meaningful protest. I think my son and grandson would march too, but my daughter-in-law usually can't take a day off from work. Long time ago I used to live in New York myself, but I've been in Pittsburgh for the last 30 years or so.

(20,692 posts)way south to the 50's. The helicopters get the most amazing overhead pics, and they always know how many people are there based on how many blocks we fill.
Plus, it's always a wonderful vibe, with bands singing and banging as they walk. Great signs, and the highlight, booing frump tower on 5th ave.
NYC police know exactly what they're doing, so, it's very safe. bundle up: The city is so near the sound, and surrounded by the two rivers, and the wind howls down the avenues!

(24,931 posts)I was in NYC over the weekend and saw a guy with a placard on Central Park West near the Natural History Museum. When I passed him he opened it up. Written on it was "Jail Blasey Ford." I wanted to throw my water bottle at him, but thought he wasn't worth the energy.
The rest of the way to the subway station, I thought, "What did she do that was illegal?" Then I thought about the type of person who was holding the sign and said to myself that in their world anytime a woman stands up for herself, they think she's breaking the law.

(75 posts)That is why they persist in doing this. Don't give them the pleasure. Instead, we need to concentrate on our message, our tactics, our voting, our fund-raising. They intend, as all propagandists do, to distract the enemy (who they consider to be us); don't let them. A divided nation will never conquor this. E pluribus unim, patriots unite, and 'carry on', fellow Americans.

(81,281 posts)We saw what happened in World War 2. And how far it got, and how shocking and terrifying the extreme practices became. I shudder to imagine where this path were on now, already with so many eerie and frightening parallels, will lead. And what it will finally take to snap America out of this nightmare.
I keep reading about how cruelty is A Thing now. The pent-up resentment and long-simmering hatred now boiling over (because its being ALLOWED to and sanctioned - even intentionally STOKED - from the very top). This wont end well. And when it finally does end, what will be left? HAH! Sounds like a promotional slogan for a Texas Chainsaw Massacre sequel.
