Think about their remarks at the press conference the other day...
And consider that Trump loves to be first to do things.
At the presser they indicated this was planned "six months ago" - so, it's a plan. She just wants some time off before launching this new venture.
Trump: "But shes done a fantastic job, and weve done a fantastic job together"
Trump: "youll be coming back at some point...in maybe a different capacity"
Haley: "Now, I dont have anything set on where Im going to go. I think that the main thing was I was Governor for six years, and we dealt with the Hurricane, a thousand-year flood, a church shooting, a school shooting. There was a lot. And then, to come in and do two years of Russia and Iran and North Korea its been eight years of intense time, and Im a believer in term limits."
Haley: "I think you have to be selfless enough to know when you step aside and allow someone else to do the job. So, thank you, Mr. President"
Haley: "For all of you that are going to ask about 2020; no, Im not running for 2020. I can promise you what Ill be doing is campaigning for this one. So, I look forward to supporting the President in the next election."
Haley: "And I do think that sometimes its good to rotate in other people who can put that same energy and power into it."
Haley: "The truth is I want to make sure that this administration, the President, has the strongest person to fight. It was a blessing to go into the U.N. with body armor every day and defend America. And Ill always do that; Ill never truly step aside from fighting for our country. But I will tell you that I think its time."
Trump then goes on with a laundry list of accomplishments - never seems to mention Pence.

Even if Pence didn't do it - Trump might think he did...and thats probably enough.

(111,098 posts)but a more likely scenario, in my opinion, is that Lindsey Graham resigns to take the job of Attorney General, after Sessions is fired, and the Governor of SC will appoint Haley as Graham's replacement in the Senate.
