This is a narrative buster, at least for now:
Pre-#Kavanaugh firestorm, enthusiasm was about the same between Democrats and Republicans.
After vote, GOPs stayed put, Democrats rose 10 points.

(58,662 posts)especially when Trump was selling it. Parts of the M$M were throwing up some outlier polls that favor Rs, but it never shook my belief or intent for when my ballot arrives.

(22,582 posts)I look forward to the day when Democrats vote in all elections like it's their duty rather than need to be excited or motivated to cast their ballots.

(85,998 posts)...this thing where we wear hair shirts and flagellate ourselves until after election day is useless.
We should feel good going into the election. That positive attitude encourages people to participate, at least as much, if not more than the scolding.
Participation in our democracy is a generational challenge. It's not something we can put on automatic. People need to feel excited about voting for our party, anxious for the prospect of change, convinced they're making a real difference with their participation. We can never take that challenge for granted.

(22,582 posts)and need to learn it again in 2016? Republicans do tend to vote like it's their duty and they depend upon the Left being fickle voters and choosing not to show up because it works out so well for them.
Here in Wisconsin, too many Democrats chose not to show up for the 2010 midterms and the state flipped from total Democratic control to total Republican control, Walker was elected for the first time, and Russ Feingold lost his Senate seat.
So yes, I'm pissed about Democrats who need to be excited and motivated and fired up to vote and we can't seem to learn the lesson about how important it is to vote for Democrats in every election.

(85,998 posts)...we had record numbers in the presidential election, and I expect we'll continue that trend in these midterm elections.
We're looking at an entirely different political landscape than that Obama-presidency midterm. Even 'fickle' voters can't help but realize what's at stake.

(8,361 posts)Trying to scare people into voting not a good idea in my book. Although my mantra is never vote for a con, ever.
