I think I would say that our investigation here, our supplemental update to the previous background investigation, was limited in scope and that that is consistent with the standard process for such investigations going back quite a long ways, he said.

Harris then specifically tried to suss out if White House lawyer Don McGahn was involved in the communication, but Wray sidestepped.
Well, I cant speak to what anybody throughout the organization might have received instructions on, he said. My understanding is that the communications occurred between the White Houses office of security and the FBI security division.

(56 posts)Wanna bet that the original Kavanaugh and Gorsich background checks were very limited in scope?

(56,828 posts)it is up to the hiring party (Ken Starr in the 90s, George W. Bush in the 2000s and now Trump) to decide if what turns up in the background check is worthy of causing them rescind their offer of employment. It could very well be that Starr, Bush and Trump did not consider binge drinking in high school and college a deal killer if nothing else came out of the background checks. The FBI would have know way of knowing anything about Dr. Ford or Ms Ramirez if they were not told about it - and, friends like Mark Judge certainly would not have mentioned Ford and college friends likely would not have said anything about Ramirez

(82,849 posts)Excuse me, Christopher - can I call you Christopher? - but aren't you the Director of the FBI? Aren't you supposed to know what's going on in your bureau, who's doing what, and who's getting secret instructions from the White House? You're presiding over an agency that's taken more hits than anytime since the burglary at the Media PA office, most of them coming from this administration. You don't know who in your organization is cooperating with the White House in damaging your reputation and credibility? And that clearly doesn't bother or concern you?
Ah well, whaddyagunnado? Another new normal.
