(82,849 posts)Don't trust the government, the government doesn't have your interests at heart, and the government only wants to hurt you. We've had a president for almost two years who has told people that he's the only one they can trust, and not to believe whatever they might hear or read or see from other sources.
You and I know it's complete and utter bullshit. But there's a multi-billion dollar industry called advertising that proves this kind of bullshit is effective in persuading people to act against their own self interest, including selling the American people addictive poison. The scales have momentarily fallen from the eyes of people who have at last recognized the mortal peril they're in.

Woke up to a 4 and the bridges are closed.

(23,102 posts)Too stupid to watch the news before they go to bed or even just check out the weather on their phones or computers, they really piss me off. I really don't care about most of them and their stupidity, but it makes me mad about all the resources that will be used and the lives put in danger because they are totally stupid and ignorant.
I'm sure there are some that really aren't stupid but have other problems, like being sick or injured, being dirt poor, having no transportation & being poor, have lots of animals, etc. Did Scott do enough for them, probably not, so if he truly didn't provide help for the disadvantaged, then the losses for them are on him.

(26,079 posts)And woke up to a C-4. Those of us who have been through many 'canes know a C-2 is totally doable, even on a barrier island. The majority of us have never, rightly, evacuated, because it isn't necessary.

(34,170 posts)Hopefully neighbors with houses on stilts and pilings will let neighbors in ranch houses into their homes. It might be their only hope if there isn't a gov shelter on island.
Good luck pandhandle folks
Katrina, Houston, Puerto Rico. It doesn't matter who you voted for when the storm comes.

(10,829 posts)Some people are of the 'hang tough' nature or worry about leaving their homes and belongings to the threat of looting. Some people feel they have nowhere to go or lack the funds to relocate. With Hurricane Florence in Myrtle Beach, for instance, new residents didn't have the long-term memory of a severe flooding event on coastal properties. And now with Michael, the storm went from a Cat 2 to a Cat 4 very, very quickly.
I'm sure these people are terrified but the emergency crews can only do so much. I know with Florence, the crews pulled back after the winds went over 45mph. On Port St Joe, the winds have already reached 110mph and could reach 150-175.
That's deadly.

(15,805 posts)Even if the storm was predicted to be a cat2, self preservation would tell you to go to safer areas on the mainland for a day. Time after time this same scenario plays out along the southern coastline and the locals still continue to deny their lying eyes and think they can out play 145 mile winds.
I feel no sympathy for 99% of these morons, the are the living ( at least currently) examples of Darwinism in action.
