suspended for 6 months, and slipped back on to a nightly evening show..

What's wrong with the regular hosts hosting their own show? He better be gone before 9pm EST..

at whatever part of the day, and for how long. I'm sure his contract will allow him to hand it over to someone else after a few hours. And I'm not at all sure what his demotion three years ago has to do with the quality of his news coverage. In fact, he was largely responsible for NBC winning a Peabody award for his coverage of Katrina, which might have something to do with why he's covering this one:

Williams became anchor of NBC Nightly News on December 2, 2004, replacing the retiring Tom Brokaw, and his first year in that post was marked by coverage of two disasters: the Asian tsunami and Hurricane Katrina. His and NBC's Katrina coverage was widely praised, and Williams in particular was applauded "for venting his anger and frustration over the government's failure to act quickly to help the victims." NBC News was awarded a Peabody Award for its coverage, the Peabody committee concluding that "Williams, and the entire staff of NBC Nightly News exemplified the highest levels of journalistic excellence in reporting on Hurricane Katrina." NBC Nightly News also earned the George Polk Award and the duPont-Columbia University Award for its Katrina coverage. Vanity Fair called Williams' work on Katrina "Murrow-worthy" and reported that during the hurricane, he became "a nation's anchor." The New York Times characterized Williams' reporting of the hurricane as "a defining moment."

quite the blow, having been relegated to a secondary cable channel over the more prestigious network. So, I really do think he WAS held accountable though reasonable people can differ as to whether or not it was ENOUGH.

I first realized when he -- and those chosen for his panels -- protected both Comey and McCabe against any suggestion that they did something wrong and treated them both as innocent victims. The day McCabe was fired, over the entire hour they never mentioned that the FBI's own internal ethical investigation department and the OIG both investigated him immediately after an action and both recommended he be fired. Of course Williams and company didn't mention the action that immediately triggered the investigations.

Today he deliberately claimed at length that the media and government gave all the warning and did all they could for the people living in the panhandle and inland areas.

This was AFTER General whatshisface in charge of Katrina disaster said they could and should have done more and pointed out his worry about the welfare of people in vulnerable housing and also pointed out that, even if warning of a rapidly growing storm were given, shelters hadn't been opened for those in vulnerable housing. This was also after Williams himself mentioned the possibility of shear forces diminishing Michael's strength -- but strictly to knock down any idea that the possibility that they wouldn't should be considered. All were attempts to excuse away why adequate warnings and other preparations weren't done, even as the eye was moving over the panhandle and we had no idea what was happening to the people there. He repeated all this later while I was listening also.

The general responded professionally and briefly the first time, saying that when he was in charge all hurricanes were regarded as potential cat 4s. Not, as Williams was pretending was appropriate, cat 2s that "probably" wouldn't get worse.

He’s obviously bright. The problem is for me that his delivery is a bit snotty and “prig-ish”. He reminds me of the evil protagonist in Hitchcock’s “Rope”.

He’s pretty erudite though.

praises and descriptions that he seems to have adopted since being on MSNBC. His "cleverness" gets annoying after the first 15 minutes or so. Is he just trying to impress, or is this more of his self importance where he talks above his guests and audience? He needs to dial it down a notch.

I think he has said he could well have been an actor/comedian instead of a tv anchor. He's more concerned with image than substance and seems to have a very inflated view of himself.
