"On Tuesday evening, I was contacted to work a double shift at Terry's Turf Club where I have been happily employed since January. Halfway through my shift, Terry came up to me and fired me, without warning and said to me "you'll be fine, just keep your legs open."
When she was trying to depart, she said Carter would not leave her alone.
"I walked to gather my belongings up a flight of stairs," she recalled. "Terry followed me. He said, "I'll miss that a**" as he was behind me on the stairs. At that point I got my phone out and started recording him because I was extremely uncomfortable."
Reid went on to explain, "The video I took was over 3 minutes long where I was asking for some sort of explanation as to why I was fired. Terry refused to give me any explanation other than 'it's just not working out.' He then, again, told me 'I don't have to explain anything to you, keep your legs open' with a smile on his face.'
In the video Reid posted, Carter again says "Keep your legs open."
The young waitress pleaded to the readers, "Please do not give your business to Terry's Turf Club on Eastern Avenue in Cincinnati, OH. Please share this so that people know the type of person the owner is."

The burger joint is infamous for gaining rave reviews, but that has changed. Since the post was made public, the restaurant's Facebook page has been saturated with one-star reviews and Yelp has temporarily disabled their review site because of this incident.
"I can't believe he was dumb enough to say this on film," Donyetta Bailey, a local employment attorney, told WKRC, after she reviewed the video.

(29,205 posts)she has a $100K to $1M wrongful termination and sexual harassment lawsuit... might take a year or so, but if she can't afford to wait and they can't afford the negativity, she might be able to settle for $250K in the next few weeks...
Terry will be fired for cause.

(13,871 posts)But in about half the states we have employment at will, which means you can be fired at any time for any or no reason, so there is no such thing as wrongful termination.
On the other hand, the sexual harassment could yield a lawsuit, and Im sure any good tort lawyer would love taking a case with these facts - on tape - before a jury.

(2,191 posts)Every state but Montana is "at will."
"At will" employees can be fired for no reason, but they can't be fired for an illegal reason. (So employers are better off saying nothing). She might have a claim in this case.

(9,995 posts)Now that Kavanaugh has been confirmed, sexual assault and attempted rape can come out in the open. And of course Trump got away with sexual assault for years. Republicans have made sure that it will not be taken seriously, so the MAGA jerks are getting more brazen (and stupid).

(63 posts)I am so damn mad at the repeating cycle of woman-hating. I grew up hearing this harassment all through my growing up years. It always affected me and the way I interpreted being a female. There was always a leering, nasty quality to these interactions. I have a 16 year old granddaughter and I do not want her to feel as I did.

(32,639 posts)I would have guessed maybe he came onto her and got shut down, or something equally nasty.
Looks like Terry's Turf Club will be out of business soon. Of course it's going to be all "her" fault too.

(17,984 posts)Plenty of people use Yelp (me included), and we want to know about this kind of behavior. I would hate to find a five star place and have it turn out that the owner had just done something like this but the reviews exposing it were removed.

(34,393 posts)his vile, despicable self, but, like the lawyer, I can't believe he was stupid enough to keep talking. Or maybe it was just arrogance and entitlement. After all, Kavanaugh & Thomas are sitting on SCOTUS.

I certainly hope Ms. Reid owns the place soon.

Terry's Turf Club faces ratings backlash after viral post alleging misogyny
Terry's Turf Club is facing backlash after a female employee said the owner told her to "keep her legs open" after she was fired, according to a viral Facebook post.
In the post, made on Sunday afternoon, a female employee says she was fired from Terry's Turf Club in Linwood for no reason.
"Halfway through my shift, Terry came up to me and fired me, without warning and said to me youll be fine, just keep your legs open. I walked to gather my belonging up a flight of stairs, Terry followed me. He said, Ill miss that a** as he was behind me on the stairs."
Included in the post is a video where the woman confronts owner Terry Carter, asking why she was fired. After a brief back and forth, he mutters something and she replies, "keep my legs open?"
"I didn't say that," he replies.
"You did, I just got it on camera," she says.
