Total devastation. There are no words to describe the horror hurricane Michael visited on the Gulf Coast of Florida. The photos look like a war zone.
Completely unrelated, we had a plumbing nightmare that flooded our basement studio. The carpet has been pulled up and remediation fans are running full speed. Therefore, Bob Kincaid will be guest hosting tonight and Friday.
Mike will return once the studio is operational again.

JANKLOW AND JANCITA
Posted by rezinate on January 13, 2012
Its a curious thing to be unmoved by the passing of someone, but as I examine my feelings upon learning of the death of former South Dakota governor and self proclaimed Indian hater Bill Janklow the best description I can offer is unmoved.
Im completely ambivalent about it-I know for his family and the families of others emotions will run a broad spectrum, each appropriate depending on their viewpoint.
A curious political career that spanned decades with more than its share of scandal-a legacy that leaves behind both supporters and detractors.
To be expected though so as many unanswered questions remain-more notable among
them is the death of Jancita EaJancita Eagle Deer (1952 April 4, 1975) was a Brulé Lakota who lived on the Rosebud Indian Reservation in South Dakota. She was notable for accusing William Janklow of having raped her in January 1967 when he was a poverty lawyer and Director of the Rosebud Sioux Legal Services program on the reservation. She had worked as his babysitter. At the time the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) did not prosecute the case.
In October 1974 Dennis Banks acted on her behalf as the tribal attorney to revive the charges, as Janklow was a candidate for state attorney general. Eagle Deer in 1974 had Janklow disbarred from practicing in the Rosebud Sioux Tribal Court. No charges were brought against Janklow in the alleged rape case and in 1975 he was appointed by the White House to the national board of the Legal Services Corporation.
Eagle Deer was killed the night of April 4, 1975 in a hit-and-run accident in southern Nebraska. She had been seeing former American Indian Movement (AIM) activist Douglass Durham. He was discovered in late 1974 to be an FBI informant and expelled from AIM in March 1975. Janklow was elected governor of South Dakota in 1978, and twice served tenures of two terms.e Deer, a one time ward and baby sitter for the Janklow household who as a fifteen year old girl accused Janklow of rape, and then was later found dead on a Nebraska highway-the alleged victim of a hit and run accident.
An accident that seems to have followed a physical beating according to some reports.

Early life and education
Jancita Eagle Deer, a Brulé Lakota, was born and grew up on the Rosebud Indian Reservation. She attended local schools, including the Rosebud Boarding School on the Reservation.
On January 14, 1967, Eagle Deer reported to her school principal that Janklow had raped her at gunpoint the night before. He had been driving her home from her work as his family's babysitter. The principal took her to the hospital, where a doctor and nurse examined her. In his memoir, Dennis Banks, an AIM founder who became involved in the case in 1974, said his review of the records showed the medical personnel said the girl was in shock. He believed that she had been assaulted. The BIA police conducted the investigation on the reservation, and the FBI did not think there was sufficient evidence to prosecute.[1] The journalist Steve Hendricks also wrote there was evidence of an assault,[2] but the case was not prosecuted.

Trooper: Janklow Was Speeding
. . .
Rep. Bill Janklow was traveling 71 mph in a 55 mph zone when he ran a stop sign and drove into the path of a motorcyclist, a state trooper testified Wednesday at the congressman's manslaughter trial.
An aide who was with the former four-term South Dakota governor at the time of the crash testified that he believed Janklow slowed before the accident.
Highway Patrol Sgt. Gene Barthel, an accident reconstructionist, used a large map to show jurors the location of roads, stop signs, Janklow's Cadillac, the motorcycle and the body of its rider, Randy Scott.
He said he based his estimate of Janklow's speed on a scientific formula that takes into account the vehicles' weights, paths and positions.
Janklow, 64, is charged with second-degree manslaughter, speeding, running a stop sign and reckless driving in the Aug. 16 collision that killed Scott, 55, of Hardwick, Minn.
Defense lawyer Ed Evans acknowledges that Janklow was speeding but said the congressman did not see the stop sign because he had a diabetic reaction that caused him to become disoriented.

Diabetes probably made him wreck the life of the Native woman, also, you think?
