I grew up a Southerner. One of my playmates was a David Crockett (with a Roman numeral after his surname). His grandfather lived next to my grandfather. I am also a first cousin many times removed of Andrew Jackson. I am of that ilk and I am not particularly proud of many things my predecessors did. So let me declare that I understand the people in question here. And let me assure you that Robert E. Lee would have known a carpetbagger when he saw one, and he would not have welcomed that slumlord's approval.

But let me hopefully reassure the OP that some of us have moved on from the sad spurious nonsense of 'Gone With the Wind' and such. And we don't need Phony Grifters like the Orange Impostor pretending to glom on to our airs of aristocracy that were nothing more than that. Lastly, I can not disagree with a single point he asserts about Robert E. Lee. And that is sad but true for me at least. I love the South.
