A White Woman, Teresa Klein, Called the Police on a Black Child She Falsely Said Groped Her

Remember her name, the more racist people caught on camera the better.

By Jeffery C. Mays and Sean Piccoli

Oct. 12, 2018

A white woman who called the police after claiming that a young black boy touched her behind in a Brooklyn deli drew a storm of ridicule and criticism on social media, and late on Friday she made a public apology to the child.

Critics characterized the incident as the latest example of a hypersensitive white person calling the police to report black people for dubious reasons. Many detractors imputed racist motives to the woman, Teresa Klein.

She was quickly labeled “Cornerstore Caroline” by Jason Littlejohn, 37, a lifelong Flatbush resident who recorded the commotion on Wednesday outside of the Sahara Deli Market on Albemarle Road. Mr. Littlejohn’s Facebook recording of the incident had been viewed 4 million times by Friday evening.

“I was just sexually assaulted by a child,” Ms. Klein is heard saying on the video as she said she was on the phone with the police. The boy, who is about 9, and another child burst into tears outside the store as bystanders confronted Ms. Klein about the incident.

Falsely accusing someone, especially a young child is just wrong, and subject to the crazies to do harm.

Beyond the wide range we consider normal, before arriving at outright insanity, is a whole host of mental problems of various type and degrees. Trump's an obvious case.

Mental disorder is common, especially in mild degrees. Given the very outrageousness of her action and that this woman has also harmed herself by her behavior, shouldn't it at least be considered? .

And if anyone doesn't care to know because it'd interfere with anger and punitive feelings, maybe consider it an opportunity for learning and developing empathy the other direction: Many conservatives feel exactly the same way. That's why they get outraged whenever liberals claim a criminal is mentally ill and want to help instead of punish. Drives 'em crazy.

She could be both, have mental health issues and a racist. Mental health instability doesn't drive racism, I think you would agree. Mental health issues can distort threats to her person, which she may have.

have discussed recognizing extremely strong racism as a trait of disorder and thus make treatment available. Diagnosable personality disorders are chronic, not occasional; sufferers cannot just behave more normally when it suits them, and their problems seriously impair their ability to function adequately in society.

That wouldn't apply to the vast majority of racists, of course, but it's obviously extremely politically touchy.

Whatever she is, hope she is properly investigated after this attack on this child and his mother. If she did have a diagnosable disorder, there'd be other traits to diagnose from. But at very least a record can be established to evaluate future behaviors against.

In 2008 Carolyn Bryant recanted her testimony. Far too late to save that child's life.

He was beaten, mutilated, shot in the head and thrown in the river. because a white woman lied about him touching her.

It's another of those commandments carved in stone, but now with penciled-in footnotes.

Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor.*

* However, if it wins elections, go right ahead.
** However, if black or brown people are the target, go right ahead.

I feel sorry for the little boy. This will always haunt him because one mentally disturbed attention-seeking nut job singled him out.

Her mental health status is recorded too, and that may save her from herself in the long run.
