GOP Senator David Perdue Rips Phone Away When Student Confronts Him

https://lawandcrime.com/caught-on-video/gop-senator-david-perdue-ripped-phone-away-while-constituent-records-him
U.S. Senator David Perdue (R-GA) ripped a phone out of a constituent’s hand late Saturday morning as the constituent was recording their encounter.

The Republican senator was being asked a question about Georgia Secretary of State Brian Kemp‘s widely-reported attempts to purge the voter registrations of thousands of black voters in the Peach State. Kemp is currently running for governor against Democrat Stacey Abrams.

Perdue was on the Georgia Tech campus on Saturday to campaign for Kemp. A student and member of the Young Democratic Socialists of America (YDSA) began to ask a question about Kemp’s alleged disenfranchisement scheme. The student, as of yet, has not been named.

The student says, “How can you endorse a candidate that–” but before he finishes his question, Perdue says, “No, I’m not doing that. I’m not doing that.” The senator then appears to make contact with the student and apparently snatches his phone away from him as the phone’s camera films the entire encounter.

7. Georgia has one-party consent

Some states have "two-party consent" laws, requiring consent from both participants in a conversation before recording it.

Georgia is not one of those states. In Georgia (and most other states), it's legal to record a conversation in which you are a participant without the consent of the other party.

(Even in two-party consent states, special considerations may apply when recording police officers and other public officials.)

For them it's still about the civil war, it's still about white male dominance. But the demographics have changed. More and more Af. Americans have moved into the region, more hispanics, asian etc. So I'm hoping very soon, that GA turns blue. I'm also glad to see that the Young Democratic Socialists of America are out there protesting

He clearly didn't succeed in erasing the video. Maybe it was being streamed somewhere?

If he kept the phone, that is considered strong arm robbery, and is a class a felony in most states. You can't do that shite.

Even if he gave the phone back, he could still be convicted.

Imagine if a black teen grabbed your phone and walked off with it. Even if a good Samaritan helped you convince him to return it, it would still be a crime. And he would definitely be violently arrested and charged.
