Nancy said this passed week that she wants to be a "transitional speaker" in 2019 if we win the House, which suggests she would not hold the gavel very long. She's 78-years old and may be ready to enjoy her health, grandchildren and second house in NAPA (and frankly, I wouldn't blame her). If she DOES retire, and her daughter Christine doesn't run, every freaking politician, former politician and would=be politician in the city will jump and it will be a madhouse. Personally, I would like one of the following:
1. Mark Leno (former state senator)
2. Aaron Peskin (San Francisco Supervisor)
3. Jeff Adachi (San Francisco Public Defender)
4. Tom Ammiano (Former California Assemblyman)
5. David Chiu (California Assemblyman)
6. Carmen Chu (City Assessor)
7. Phil Ting (State Assembly)
Who would you like to see run?

(21,852 posts)No need for a special election if she finishes her term.
Didnt Boehner resign as speaker and finish out the term of his house seat?

Preparing for what comes after. I love Nancy, but I know whats going to happen when day arrives.
We haven't even gotten the House back. And frankly, given the last 2 years, none of us have a clue as to what comes next.

By the way it would be brilliant for her to push through articles of impeachment and resign after
