They may not be getting enough food so she wants it all for herself and her cubs, trying to force sex on her or one of the cubs or just tired of confinement.
She said it was deliberate because of the way she killed him.

sometimes kill if there is perceived disease too. But I suspect that it was about the safety of the cubs. More often than not, it's the male who kills the cubs.
