General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI have an absurd amount of fun watching Beto drive across Texas every day.
If you FB, he livestreams his drive between towns, chats with commenters, plays wonderful music, discusses his family and everything that's going on. It's so warm and human and real. He's got a dash cam and I swear I've seen every Whataburger in Texas. He's the kindest, warmest man to everyone. I'd recommend just keeping the window open and enjoying. There's hope for us yet.
GOD I hope he gets elected. He's the anti-Cruz.

(62,276 posts)Live streaming is the future of media.
And his videos average 100k views. A day. That's big youtuber level social media share. And it's FB so it's double good.

(13,877 posts)Give him some national Senate experience, a committee chairmanship and he'll be ready to move up again. He's so transparent that there isn't much of anything negative they can say about him. He's like a human tai chi master...uses the aggression and punches to his advantage and they end up on the floor...looking stupid.
Go Beto !!!

(41,991 posts)You don't punch at the opposition. You get out of their way and let their own energy carry them to whatever end it will.
Texas Zen. It's a thang.

(41,991 posts)And today they were talking about playing frisbee and how in spite of having had a number of dogs theyd never had a good frisbee dog.
Im not certain but I think they said people were finding out where they planned to stop, calling ahead and picking up the tab. Today he did a selfie and tipped the drive thru kids. It was just...human.

(7,858 posts)I know the family...two years ago his sister asked me if I would support Beto if he ran against Cruz..yes and where can I donate I asked and I've been donating with pleasure ever since...the guy who held the the seat Beto currently has was not particularly smart or articulate but he was an El Paso fixture...I remember when Clinton was on the campaign trail and he held a rally at the airport...Congressman Reyes introduced him and to be honest I was embarrassed and expressed my embarrassment to the person standing next to me...his response was "yes, he's an idiot but he's our idiot" and I said don't you think we deserve better than that? so when Beto threw his hat in the ring I was overjoyed..an intelligent sincere young man who doesn't march in lock step with the old guard...GO BETO!

(41,991 posts)From a pro Beto pac that snarked at Cruz for saying he liked White Castle when there were none in Texas. Whataburger must be making bank. 😄

(54,437 posts)But Texans often have an independent streak that just might surge through where the polls don't ask.
I almost never give four figure contributions to candidates in off-year elections. Beto has been an exception. Texas could REALLY use the breath of fresh air he brings. Of course, we could have used Wendy Davis as governor, too. But Beto will be around for a while, win or lose.
I think I like win better, all the same.

(1,018 posts)Didn't realize he was live streaming his days. Watched he and his wife and 2 assistants go to a laundromat and do some block walking while waiting for the clothes to wash. The very last house they visited had kittens! It was so wonderful to see him being so gentle with the little babies and the children. He is special. I live in California, but have my eye on him! Texas do the right thing!

Very weird.
Anyway, I looked at parts of a couple of videos. He's pretty good. I like the way he moves & interacts with people.
Fingers crossed.

(171 posts)Upper-middle-class Dallas suburb where I grew up. Was always 80-90% Republican, but today the BETO signs were much more in evidence than Cruz's.
I'm hopeful that Beto is connecting with a lot of usual non-voters, and the polls are missing them.
He is a genuinely likable fellow, and What-a-Burgers are the real deal, too.
