Through his great-great-great-great-great-great-great-grandfather Jan Willem Friso, Prince of Orange, King Willem-Alexander is a cousin of Margrethe II of Denmark, Albert II of the Belgians, the Grand-Duke of Luxembourg, Harald V of Norway, Juan-Carlos of Spain, Albert II of Monaco, and Queen Elizabeth II.

The invite, hosted by Prince Philip only, included a list of thing you had to do like buy a long dress, go to the hairdresser to get your hair done that day, and wear appropriate jewelry or some such list. It went on and on. My sister is someone who only wears pantsuits to any party or event she gets invited to. She's only ever had her hair done for her wedding. She usually wears blue. So she did what she had to do. Bought an expensive blue dress she'll never wear again. Bought expensive fake jewelry she'll never wear again. Had her hair done. And went. I don't know if she talked to the actual Prince but she saw the queen looking out from a balcony. Could be Trump was put off by all the protocol. I think my sister did it mostly to please the spirit of my grandmother who was a royal fan. And they got a photo out of it. Trump talking about himself all meal while sitting beside the queen would have been impossible. Glad cooler heads prevailed. The Queen is also beyond the age of dealing with Trump's 'take' on things and the controversy that might erupt. So 15 minutes was the smartest thing to do. The Queen at 92 doesn't need to deal with such bullshit. I'm sure she has enough going on in her own palace.

That was at least 10 minutes too many. If the big orange pumpkin head hadn’t appeared with a minute or two while she was waiting, she should have just signaled to the Prince and the guards, and left. Would have served him right.
