Is Florida Man the bomber?

Think about it. They used DWS as the return addressee. DWS hasn't been the DNC chair for a couple of years and she's not in the news much any more, but it seems to me that a Florida Man would be more likely to try to pin the deed on a FL congressperson. Also, the perp seems to be kind of stupid.

We are the third most populated state in the nation behind California and Texas. With 21 million + people, we are bound to have some idiots.

Some of the Florida Man stuff I can roll with, where it's legitimately fun and colorful and unique to the state.

Like the story about the guy who brought an alligator to a liquor store.

Or the one about the guy who brought an alligator to a fast food drive through.

Or frankly any story about alligators and drinking or eating establishments.

And I love the literature of native Florida authors like Carl Hiaasen and Tim Dorsey who seem to thrive writing about some of the zany antics associated with the state.

But honestly, on the other hand, just because something bad happens out of Florida doesn't mean you have carte blanche to beat up on every resident of the state or dream about it being washed away into the ocean.

That gets very tiresome very fast.

"that a Florida Man would be more likely to try to pin the deed on a FL congressperson"

The level of mental instability involved if that is truly the case means this person will not be fit to stand trial.

DWS was used as a fake return address in order to get the recipients, who would know her, to open the package.

Primary target: the addressee. Secondary target (in case it's over 13 oz, or doesn't have enough postage, etc.): the return addressee.

of whom there are obviously many (although I have often wondered how any normal person can tolerate the weather), but was merely riffing on the Florida Man meme. I will refrain hereafter even if the perp does turn out to be from Florida. Mea culpa.

I'm from Minnesota. If the perp were to turn out to be from here there would be jokes about snow and lutefisk.

But then going by your weather remark, I know that your frost bitten fingers (however many are left from years of living in Minnesota) didn’t really type that. You must be using a mic. Be careful getting too close... your tongue will stick to it.

The bombs and packages are all alike. I suppose a group could have intentionally done it that way, but I'm going with Occam's Razor: The simplest explanation is usually the correct one.

<snip>

"The explosive devices sent to several politicians and broadcast networks this week were reportedly mailed through a South Florida mail facility.

CNN reports the pipe bombs sent to the Clintons, former President Barack Obama, and other prominent Democrats were sent out of the Opa-locka distribution center.

An official told the Associated Press that investigators have been examining a database of images of mail maintained by the U.S. Postal Service. It has provided clues pointing investigators toward Florida.

The official wasn't authorized to discuss the investigation and spoke on condition of anonymity."
