JUST IN: Judge blocks Georgia election officials from rejecting absentee ballots with mismatched signatures http://hill.cm/20UswbE
A federal district court judge issued an order Wednesday to temporarily block election officials in Georgia from tossing out absentee ballots or applications when a voters signature does not match the signature on their voter registration card.
Judge Leigh Martin May, on the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia, said election officials have to notify voters first before they can reject absentee ballots with mismatched signatures.
The order is an early win for the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) after the group filed a lawsuit on behalf of the Georgia Muslim Voter Project against Georgia Secretary of State Brian Kemp and county registrars.

(25,862 posts)but even on a day to day basis. Just how tightly they are trying to match signatures is what seems completely not looked at.

(999 posts)I have a friend in Georgia who has lived and voted in that state since she went to UGA back in the early 80s. She posted on Facebook earlier this week that her absentee ballot had been rejected for not having a matching signature. The GOP is using volunteers to review the absentee votes and they are discarding any ballot that isnt a spot on match. Hell I haven't filled a voter registration card out in 20 plus years so I know my current signature is different.
not fooled
(5,801 posts)i.e. that the signatures "don't match" per the decision of a biased group of partisans who are not experts in evaluating signatures.
And, why are PUKE volunteers getting such an assignment????? Can kemp just bring in a bunch of pukes to do his bidding???
Geez, what a banana republic we live in.

(13,485 posts)How many graphologists are determining the validity of the signatures? I'm sure there are none. It's just by the whim of the person checking. Do they even have the artistc eye to be able to see the basics? No one knows. Do they use the scanning capabilities the banks use? Doubt it. It seems like whimsical endeavor.
