Early voting in Maryland today was busier than any general election day I can recall. Parking was total madness... But overall, everything went smoothly... the poll workers were great, and the atmosphere and attitude of everyone in line was almost festive!

(21,718 posts)I think I missed the crowd, they said they were busier before I was there which was about 11:30. I live in a red part of Montgomery County. I do have to say I didn't see one sign for Jealous, and there were no poll workers outside the polling place like there were for Hogan and the congress critter. I voted for Jealous, but there didn't seem like much of an effort to get votes. Maybe it is because of where in Montgomery County I live.

Just a few days before early voting started, our neighborhood was canvassed by an organized team of volunteers in support of Ben Jealous.
At my early voting location there were many signs and supporters providing literature and conversation. I even met TWO candidates for the MD House of Delegates. This part of PG county is very BLUE... not including the search for a parking place, it took about an hour to finish. There were dozens of privacy booths set up for voting... and FIVE counting machines to read the ballots.
Even though the line was snaking back and forth, I estimated about 500 people in line ahead of me, so the were processing a voter about 7 seconds. The poll workers were VERY well trained and very friendly and professional. Even though they were being "run-ragged", you could also tell that they were very excited and pleased to see the large turnout. Smiles everywhere!!!

(21,718 posts)I have heard nothing about Jealous where I am, no mailers, no door knockers, nothing on TV, and nothing at my voting center. I voted for him because I can't stand Hogan. Montgomery County is pretty blue, just not near where I am. I talked to some of the other poll workers outside the voting center and they said they thought Jealous was low on money.
The workers at the poll were great here too.

(1,004 posts)in my neighborhood. And this is a politically active neighborhood; it seemed like every other house had Hillary and Van Hollen signs in 2016.
It's just weird. It's almost like there are no signs to be posted. Maybe Jealous is exclusively focusing on Baltimore and PG County? It's not looking good.

(21,718 posts)I was talking to some of the other dem poll workers outside the voting place, and they thought that Jealous was almost out of money. I guess that is what happens when you live in Damascus, love the town, but next door neighbors had a tRump/Pence sign up in 2016.

(42,862 posts)Was his original appearance not as helpful as they'd hoped? Was Bernie too busy with other appearances?
The Ben Jealous campaign seems to be running on a very small budget. That may help to explain the lack of yard signs and large roadside signs.
I see a LOT of Hogan signs. And... sickeningly so... I saw a "Democrats for Hogan" sign. Ugh. Bastards!
