It was embarrassing to watch the Senator from Arizona bob and weave to escape the question about "pre-existing conditions". The Republican Party, almost in entirety, voted to repeal Obamacare, in its entirety, over 56 times.
They seem to be denying that fact now?
Why is that?

(38,958 posts)Republicans are simply afraid. They fear pretty much everything from what I have come to conclude over the years. If it is not the "1950's Leave it to Beaver Stereotype" then it is simply to be feared.

(4,338 posts)seriously, when patients are referred to as consumers/customers, particularly by the right, and the pharmaceutical companies, it seems to me it is all about bottomline.
Not all, but most pre-existing conditions are long term care, which costs a lot more.

Step 1 - Repeal ACA
Step 2 - ?
Step 3 - Profit
They are the underpants gnomes of the US government.
And if that is not enough take this in your thoughts my mom is on her 4th cancer in 9 years.
One week, really for one week of radiation treatment its 45K. Without the ACA without Medicare/Medicaid she is as good as dead and would have been years ago. They are so scared right now healthcare issue could send a big lot of them packing Nov 6 and in 2020.

(32,475 posts)or you understand, that was you age, you will have pre-existing conditions. GOP rank and file were against Obama care, but not the pre-existing protections.

The same reasons they don't want universal healthcare. It gives people power. And it is SO much easier to keep an employee subjugated if they have no power.
And besides, it's just FUN to watch the ants...I mean "electorate" squirm.

(65,168 posts)Reading something other than the English version of the Bible and those horrible tomes by Ayn Rand might be the start of a cure.
For instance, read a book on econometric modeling, instead of an Econ 101 book. Might be something they can learn.
Maybe not, though.

(1,714 posts)If you figure you don't need to pay for coverage and then find out that you have something that is going to cost you $$$ so you pick up insurance with every intention of dropping it as soon as you are successfully treated, then the insurance companies either aren't going to make any $$$, or they are going to pass the cost on to people who have coverage at all times, whether they ever use it or not.

(5,502 posts)They know it's bad policy. But they want to continue to get insurance lobby money. We all know that if the repugs get the numbers, all ACA protections will be eliminated.
And they will stand before the flag on that day and proclaim their vote to end ACA to be a great restoration of freedom for Americans.
That's how they premise everything. Anything that helps people is an affront to freedom. Anything that allows corporate or religious America to assert their will over others is a stood up as a testament to our enduring liberty.
This is their playbook.
