Trump rally goer explains why he thinks Obama and Hillary 'probably mailed bombs to themselves'

“You don’t think [Cesar Sayoc] actually sent the bombs?” a reporter asked.

“No, probably not,” Runyon said. “They probably had it done. They may have paid him to do it.”

“What would be the upside of that?” the reporter asked.

“Trying to bring people over to their side,” he said suggesting that they wanted to turn people against Trump.

if the exact same things happened to different people and we had the exact same facts they would have no problem seeing it was true.

Somehow facts inconsistent with some things we believe are painful. I like Obama. A fact suggesting he is a crook taking bribes will hurt me. So I think up a way to explain away the unwanted fact. Leon Festinger in his 1957 book Cognitive Dissonance wrote about the mental gymnastics we use to explain away unwanted facts. He and his colleagues infiltrated groups invested in a prophecy that the world will end on a specific day. The fact of the world not ending was explained way in different ways to preserve the validity of their initial belief. God saw our dedication so he decided to spare the world. That permitted their original belief to still be true. Desired belief, Trump supporters are not assassins. Mental gymnastic to cope with fact bombs sent: they sent the bombs to them selves. We all do this. I do it. You do it. Trump clowns do it. Some gymnastics are funnier than others.

the emotions are the driver while the intellect is the elephant being driven. We see in study after study, we see it here.

The problem is that liberals tend to use intellect more, which does not reach these purely emotional thinkers. The Russians have learned to weaponize this fact and Trump, being a purely emotional thinker (pure ego) knows how to reach them.

Maybe we need to learn to use psychology better.

I saw Nicole Wallace and Steve Schmidt bemoaning how really bad Democrats are at politics. Nicole says she sometimes wants to send a letter Dear DNC... telling how to do a better job fighting Trump. Republicans all study carefully thought out talking points and are ready to use them. Our people when asked a question posing a problem for us often just blink, like a deer in headlights. They have no clue how to respond, all too often. I propose we elect pramila jayapal as head snappy message master, in charge of education of Democrats. I propose we put her on tv debating republicans. I propose we appoint Catherine Rampell as the Chrystia Freeland Professor of Democratic Economic Debate Crushing . I appoint Austin Goolsbee as her mentor.

he is the slave of his id. $400 million dollars from his dad insulated him from having to develop his ego, his desires always indulged by his money and human ramora. His kids have (under)developed similarly, though not to the degree he has.

The Saudi prince is probably similar in a lot of ways, though he might have a stronger intellect than trump. I see the prince as, similarly, a big baby, unchallenged by having done the work of real men.

The latter requires two competing concepts and ignoring obvious facts to accept an implausible outcome over the obvious one while former is adhering to an alternative reality that has no factual basis, like a fairy tale.

Where they get their confidence enough to con them into believing up is down, good is bad , and bad is good. Trump is making America hate again , again the opposite of any of his claims. His propaganda is just another tactic used , and the truth is his biggest enemy.

That is the role of elections. If we can make a strong showing and capture the House, the elements of truth and sound reasoning will be on display for all to see, while the paranoid, hate-filled, and mentally challenged will slink into the corner. Unfortunately a few will not go quietly. There will be more incidents but it is something we must work through.

Reason doesn't work. Facts don't work. They're mocked mercilessly and they only double-down in how right they think they are. No matter what, about 30% of the country is insane (e.g., the 30% that still believes Saddam had WMDs and that we were justified in invading Iraq). My only hope is that the group in the middle is reasonable and votes accordingly.

Anyone on this site have ideas on how to get through to these dangerous fools? What works?
