What I want to know is who is providing a lawyer for Sayoc. He appeared just

in time to prevent him from giving information to federal investigators. I know having one is standard procedure but is he a public defender or is he being sponsored. Will the early tone of Sayoc change dramatically to avoid connecting himself to the right, even though evidence proves he is? I am just wondering. A man who lives of his van immediately gets a lawyer before declaring to the courts that he can not afford one.

You don't have to wait for a court appearance to apply for a public defender. It's part of the Miranda warnings: You have the right to have a lawyer represent you and if you cannot afford a lawyer one will be appointed for you.

Nothing unusual here.
