Beat reporters like Kelly O’Donnell appear on both MSNBC and NBC. They need to project a semblance of neutrality in their reporting that the opinion-based personalities do not. They need to appear as reporters, not opinion columnists.

It’s up to the Joys and Rachels of the world to take that reporting and drill down beyond the surface. They do that.
