When Trump says arm everybody that is as stupid as you can get. A reporter should tell him that. If they did this they would be calling Trump stupid all the time. Thats the way it should be.

(5,914 posts)The press has access now, and all they do is parrot his obvious, unquestioned bullshit. So what if they're not around to hear him spew it? Are they sticking around to try to "trap" him in a lie? He lies all the time!
I would LOVE it if the talking heads on cable news said, "We didn't cover the President's press conference today because he apparently said... (insert complete twaddle)
which is not true because... (insert facts)
but you can check it out on Fox or Breitbart, if you really want to waste your time. In the meantime, here's what REALLY happened in the world today..."

Something like that is an anchor-critter "translating" Trump's verbal diarrhea.

(146,317 posts)That's the tradition of news reporting. That's what reporters are taught to do. Now that the "news" has become a 24/7 opinion piece, traditional reporting is harder and harder to find. You can find it at most newspapers, many local TV news operations, and even on the ABC, NBC, and CBS regular morning and evening news shows. Reporters tell what they observed, but don't offer their opinion on it, particularly for political news.
That's the standard. I look for that in the news coverage I watch and read. I want to know what happened, not what a reporter thinks that means. Editorial commentary is not news. It is opinion. It's important to recognize the difference.
It is not a reporter's job to tell a President he just said something stupid. It is the reporter's job to let us know what the President said, so we can make up our own minds.
We need more actual news and less opinion from the media.
