Bernie
Kamala Harris
Booker
Schumer

leader of the DNC
if you HAD TO name ONE PERSON... who would it be? Not who you want it to be, but who is the leader?

(7,447 posts)two years out from a presidential election where the party doesn't hold the White House (or the House or Senate).

(58,785 posts)and guess what! Some people chose not to vote to elect a Democratic president in 2016.
Itm, our party leaders singly and collectively work themselves to exhaustion and hope to hell WE won't fail this time. Remember, the 2022 redistricting will be based on the results of this election -- for the following decade through 2032!

(21,636 posts)Unlike today's neo-fascist GOPee, ours is not a verticalist, autocratic party.
We've got our hierarchy and elders of course; but this is a party of many voices.

(1,376 posts)President Obama, the last legitimately-elected president.
Essentially, he's our De Gaulle, and Trump is Petain.
And Petain ended up dying in prison at the age of 95, after spending six years in confinement, senile, bed-ridden, incontinent, and hallucinating.
Trump will be fortunate if his end is as pleasant as Petain's was...

(42,862 posts)Not Sanders (since he's not a Democrat) but the others are de-facto or strong contenders for that honor and responsibility.
I often hear comments about a politician's "voting record". I suppose that's all well and good, but a politician's "voting record" is only an indication of how much he/she agrees with the political agenda of the party. It's really does not indicate that he/she has any loyalty to or investment in the growth and success and positive perception of the Democratic party itself.
All I'm saying is that in my opinion, the leader of a political party (particularly the Democratic party) should actually BELONG TO and BE A MEMBER of that party in order to demonstrate that under their leadership, they have the best interests of the party in mind. Loyalty and commitment is important to me. I believe that it's a role and responsibility that involves selling, uplifting and polishing the Democratic "brand" ... showing Democrats and the party in a positive light... and getting others interested and excited in supporting Democrats. A smart leader of our great party will not "air dirty laundry" in public, nor will he/she say or do things that tarnish or denigrate the party, other party leaders, or party members/candidates/elected officials.
With all that in mind, I think it's safe to say that Hillary (with 2 L's) and Cory Booker meet that criteria.

We will see, but Harris, Booker, and others can become leaders. That role shifts and depends who steps up for the job.
Me.

(35,077 posts)I really don't think we have a leader... after the elections, we will probably win the House, if Nancy Pelosi becomes Speaker of the House, she will have to be leader of not just the Democratic Party, but of the free world.

Al Franklin would have been good at it but he fell by the wayside.

there are four contenders. Obama was the last Democrat as POTUS. Pelosi and Schumer are the highest officials in office, now. Hillary is the last Democrat who won the nomination (and the democratic vote). The highest office is the Presidency, so it comes down to Obama as the most recent person to actually serve as President, and Hillary who really won the Presidency. I don't think the others on the list would count until it's 2020 and they start winning primaries.

(17,984 posts)Sometimes Kamala. Sometimes it's Pelosi. Sometimes it's Warren.
Notice something about how it changes, though. 999 times out of 1,000 it depends on who is in the Rump's crosshairs for the week. Or it might be because one of them vocally fights back against GOP congress. It very, very rarely seems to have anything to do with self promotion or maneuvering to be seen as a contender.

(13,877 posts)or who would appeal to a majority of Americans. I wish. Can we do Obama again?
They all have the experience...except Avenatti...but frankly, he leads the pack in aggressiveness...a very "unDemocratic" trait, IMO. No one has had to run against a certifiable madman who does not play by any rules nor have an ounce of political morals or h`ave a background other than a con man.
Think we're going to have to a bit creative here. Democrats are in a bind, IMO.
