Trump doing the "MAGA rally" tonight because "the NYSE opened the day after 9/11"

Trump has said multiple times that he is doing the rally tonight because he remembers the significance of the NYSE opening the day after the 9/11 attacks. From what I can see, the NYSE opened Sept 17.

Tiny is basically suggesting that his rallies are just as important as the NYSE.

that a lot of wiring and stuff that the NYSE relied on went through underneath where the towers collapsed, so they had to either reroute or recover wiring etc. for it come back up.

I don't know about the wiring thing, though it is believable. But the whole of South Manhattan was a mess for a long time after the attacks.

So, surprise, surprise, Trump lied.

so I was aware of the wiring issues w/ the NYSE being messed up. Lots of circuits ran underneath the towers so when they went down, the wiring of course was destroyed. Funny thing too, I had to travel the day right after 9/11, so it was really a nervous time for air travelers then (including me, I had to fly to the east coast then, 9/12).

Take care.

I was working for a major airline then, and IIRC all air traffic was grounded for three days. I'm pretty sure we weren't flying again until 9/13 or 9/14. I think we were set to fly on Thursday but for some reason operations didn't start up again until Friday.

been a while and I do recall the fear back then. According to my 2001 calendar, I show a seminar I went to (all day) on 9/12, so I had to leave pretty early 9/12 am.

with stricter airport security checks, disallowing for example the box cutting knives that were used by the hijackers. (Reinforcement of cockpit doors began in October 2001, and was required for larger airlines by 2003). First, the stranded planes were allowed to go to their intended destinations, then limited service resumed. The backlog of delayed passengers took several days to clear.

The airline I worked for didn't resume operations until the 14th, IIRC. Maybe your flight had special permission to fly on the 12th in order to reposition an airplane?

details other then the seminar on the 12th, all day. In any event, either the 12th or the 13th, were very scary for all of us. I do recall the repositioning of aircraft as well as the box cutter restrictions.

Biggest thing I remember is the fear and nerves. All of us were. I'll never forget that day when all of us, sitting around in the airport was looking at each other, and at least work had given me authority to cancel everything (flight, seminar, etc.) if I was too nervous to fly. I didn't but believe me, I thought long and hard about it, and decided to go anyway. We had TWA then, as well as Ozark Airlines, and another regional carrier I can't recall 100%, Piedmont airlines (which I used as a transit carrier occasionally to hop onto either flights to New Jersey/Florida...

Take care.

I was working in a division of flight operations, and I remember a whole bunch of us crowded into a conference room watching TV and then being called to a meeting around noon where one of the executives explained that all our airplanes were safe, how air traffic control had closed off all US airspace, and how our dispatchers had rerouted all flights even before that. So there were airplanes landing all over the place at airports where they normally wouldn't be, and it took days to get them back in position. I had to fly somewhere on (I think) that Saturday, and everybody, especially the crew, was really stressed out. Scary times.
