(470 posts)5. I went to Jr and Sr high school in southwest Houston in the sixties.
There were no black, browns, Asians, other "others" for my classmates, Southern Baptists and others of that stripe to bully and torture, tell insulting jokes about, or harass. The only available group was the Jews, and they took full advantage. i was fortunate enough to avoid hanging with these young Jesus freaks, and instead hung out with the small community of Unitarians and the handful bright counter-culturites available in Houston. The surfers were an OK group as well. It made all the difference.
