Assange would surrender to Britain if no US extradition

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange would end his five-year stay in Ecuador's London embassy and hand himself over to British authorities if given assurances he would not face extradition to the United States, his lawyer said Friday.

Assange has been holed up at the embassy since 2012, concerned that a British arrest warrant would result in his extradition to the United States, where he could be tried for revealing state secrets.

Assange would "face up" to surrendering to British authorities who want to arrest him for breaching bail conditions, said his lawyer Carlos Poveda.

"In British justice, he could even be sentenced to three to six months' imprisonment," Poveda said.

I suspect Ecuador may have put Assange on notice that he needs to prepare for his exit, either voluntarily or involuntarily. And so he's seeing how good a deal he can extract from the Brits before he's shoved out the embassy door, IMHO.

then close, lock, and barricade the door behind him.

He can eat and drink whatever passersby give him, piss and crap in public, until he gets tired of living on that half dozen square feet of space, and climbs down a few feet onto the sidewalk into the arms of the bobbies.

Shitty roommate and brilliant legal tactician Julian Assange's ploy to assure his freedom from persecution by suing the only country in the world willing to shield him from those longing to throw him in the clink has hit a tiny snag: a language barrier ... Once Assange finds himself an Australian translator, the courts will go forward with his suit against the Ecuadorian government. They took away his Internet! They want him to clean his room! They've been sheltering him from European law enforcement in their London Embassy since 2012! ... Ecuador is less than impressed with their long-term political houseguest filing suit against them ....

William Saunderson-Meyer

... It’s all a bit like Mum and Dad trying to convince their loutish freeloading sprog, now in his late 40s, to vacate the basement and get a job.

Despite the simpering media propaganda, Assange was never an evenhanded journalist.

He claimed that choosing between Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump was like “choosing between cholera or gonorrhoea”. But Wikileaks went ahead to drip-feed a flow of information, evidently provided by Russia’s intelligence, which hurt the prospects of Clinton. Nothing was released that damaged Trump’s prospects ...

In January, Trump confidante Roger Stone sent radio host Randy Credico a text message, obtained by Mother Jones and reported Thursday: “I am working with others to get JA a blanket pardon. It’s very real and very possible. Don’t fuck it up.”

“JA” is Julian Assange, the Wikileaks founder whose website hosted emails stolen from Democrats, allegedly by Russian agents, during the 2016 campaign. “Blanket pardon” refers, possibly, to the fact that Assange has never actually been charged with a crime in the United States, despite the belief of many that he may be the subject of a sealed indictment.

Months after Stone’s text, an unnamed Justice Department official told Reuters that though Wikileaks was under investigation, there was no sealed indictment against Assange.

“I most definitely advocated a pardon for Assange,” Stone acknowledged to Mother Jones ...
