General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsWe all must realize all this violence and rhetoric is leading up to election day violence at
the polling stations. This will be their last line of defense to squash the american people's right to vote. How well prepared is the democratic party nationally and locally to address this. How much can we depend on local law enforcement to protect the citizens from thugs that the same police maybe involved with themselves?
The last chapter is Nov 6th and it could be terrible for some and awful for the rest of us. Texas, Georgia, and other places with close elections will fare the worse for obvious reasons, decades old suppression of black and hispanic peoples and their rights to vote...

(58,785 posts)without violence or threat of, many more millions are voting by mail, and our nation's not going up in violent flames on November 6. Government of, by and for the people will either be reinforced by our people or allowed to be pulled farther toward the destruction, however.
Avoiding dying in battle on the way to or from the voting booth is not on the AFL/CIO's list of reasons why we should all vote early, but most of the others make sense. #3 might be joking just a little (or not, not sure), but in 2016, people in 30 states who owed fines or fees had their voting rights restricted. #9 should be reason enough all by itself.
2. You could get to the polling place at the last minute and find out its not your polling place anymore.
3. Your Republican governor might declare parking tickets a felony and you'll lose your voting rights.
4. Flat tires, fender-benders, misplaced car keys, late bus, dead batteriesthe transportation gremlins are real.
5. The dog could eat your sample ballot.
6. What if Republicans decide to enforce a new voter ID law that would require you to produce a government-issued photo ID, a long-form birth certificate, a blood sample and a DNA test?
7. There are widespread reports of birds massing near polling places and Hitchcock-esque music being heard nearby.
8. Potential power outages could turn getting to your polling place a nightmare.
9. Once you vote early, the phone calls stop and no more candidates and volunteers knock on your door.
10. The election is just too important to leave any chance that you might not be able to vote.

As for your imagining that Democrats should somehow be prepared to stop a whackadoodle if he did show up! Is this supposed to be an imagined failure in advance? No one should need to point out that we're not the police, and I have no fear that Nancy will need to multiuse her 4-inch heels.

(10,252 posts)I don't expect massive outbreak of violence at the polls. I expect most everywhere will a peaceful process.

(721 posts)in certain places there will be voter intimidation and even violence. I've heard stories from people about it in the last election and we've already had violent attacks like the bombing and shooting. Republicans will not uphold the law. We're fighting fascism here. You can bet there will be violent outbursts when Republicans lose the majority too.
