Donald Trump invents fake story about stock market opening the day after 9/11 at Illinois rally

With what happened early today, that horrible, horrible attack in Pittsburgh, I was saying maybe I should cancel both this and that. And then I said to myself, I remembered Dick Russell, a friend of mine, great guy, he headed up the New York Stock Exchange on September 11th, and the New York Stock Exchange was open the following day,” Trump falsely claimed. “He said — and what they had to do to open it you wouldn’t believe, we won’t even talk to you about it. But he got that exchange open.”

But he did not get the stock market open.

In fact, as Bloomberg points out, the NYSE was closed for a full week, finally opening on September 17.

“We have our schedules. And nobody’s going to change it. So we’re here. And let’s have a good time,” Trump said at the rally.

I'm watching the morning news shows and the way they tap dance around what a monster and bullshit artist this guy is... my head is going to explode.

Every morning briefing with the President should start with a list of the things he stated the day before that are factually wrong. It wouldn't matter that they'd never get to substantive things. They probably never do anyway, given his apparent illiteracy.

...giving a daily press conference to address Trump's lies from the previous 24 hours. Someone like Fugelsang would be good.

It's not enough to rely on the mainstream media to call out the lies. We need to do something more provocative than that.

I wrote to my rep. and suggested that since Dems are complaining that they can't get booked on the networks to talk about anything other than Rump... they should take turns with a bullhorn on the steps of the capitol building every day and run down his lies. The cameras would come.
