Doug Wardlow (R) is running for MN Attorney General. I'm voting for his opponent, Keith Ellison (D).
Wardlow has a long anti-gay history. In high school, he bullied students he thought were gay. He told one boy, you're a faggot and people like you should be shot.
The boy, Ryan Durant, tried to kill himself. When he returned to school, Wardlow said to him about the failure to kill himself, What, you couldnt even get that right?
In 2012, Wardlow supported a ballot measure to prevent gay marriage in MN. The measure failed.
In 2015, the Supreme Court legalized gay marriage. Wardlow wrote an op-ed against the decision for the Fox News website.
This article, "Doug Wardlow, LGBT rights and the gay man he allegedly bullied in high school" says that Keith Ellison "has denied an ex-girlfriends allegation of an instance of domestic abuse." The accusation is that the morning after Ellison broke up with Karen Monahan, he wanted her to move out and tried unsuccessfully to pull her out of bed by her feet. Karen Monahan seems to be motivated by jealousy in speaking out against Keith Ellison. In December, she sent an angry letter to his current girlfriend accusing her of stealing him. In March, Monahan sent Ellison texts from her friends implying his current girlfriend is old and ugly.
I'm voting for Keith Ellison (D) for MN Attorney General. He's pro-gay, pro-choice, pro-environment, and pro-marijuana legalization.

He wrote a "right-to-work" bill against labor unions, which fortunately didn't pass. Punching down at struggling workers.
He supported a ballot measure for Voter ID in MN, which fortunately didn't pass. Punching down at people who lack ID.

It has been known for a while, but is now being a major story in Minnesota media, just at the right time.

(146,324 posts)Only a massive turnout in the metro area will push him over the top, I'm sure. DFLers, though, have many reasons to show up at the polls this year, so that may help. This article about Wardlow might ease their worries about marking the Ellison box, too.
Personally, I was not that fond of the idea of Ellison running for a statewide office. He's a perfect fit for his district, but not necessarily for the entire state. I'm keeping my fingers crossed, and my Ellision yard sign clean and tidy.

(34,661 posts)the same comments from a family member whom has run campaigns in Minny. Same story, massive turn out in the Metro to off set the out state.
Wardlow is what is wrong with the Minnesota GOP. Reminds one of Quist and Gutenkneck days of the hate filled so called Moral Majority Christian Warriors from Brown and Nicolette Counties.

(146,324 posts)He's known in his own area, but not anywhere else. That means not in other rural outstate counties, either. He's simply not really a name in Minnesota. Ellison is. Now, not every likes Ellison, of course, but DFLers are likely to mark his box anyhow.
I expect it to be a pretty close result. It's one of the races I'll be watching closely a week from Tuesday. I sure as Hell don't want a right-winger sitting in that office. No way. I'm hopeful that won't happen, but not secure about it at all.

(22,156 posts)Wow, if this nut is elected, there goes just about all of our constitutional rights provided by the constitution and the bill of rights.
Just about everyone would suffer and this guy sounds like he would only enforce the laws already on the books in MN only if he wanted to. We have that already here in MO w/ Josh Hawley, so I want to give you an advance warning for those of you in MN.
Gays, blacks, immigrants, women, other 'kinky' religious groups, you name it, the rights of every one of these groups and many too numerous to list here will be negatively impacted because this guy can and probably will ignore the transgressions done against these groups. Also, if your city passes an ordinance that benefits members of your population, watch out! This guy as AG would not go to bat for you and defend the ordinance. He would allow also the federal courts, under Sessions' AG role, attack our ordinances that rump and sessions take offense to.
Don't let this guy do this to you.

(1 post)It is interesting to read about these two topics. The one on Keith Ellison is not surprising. I happen to know Kim Ellison through my friendship with Rep. Raymond Dehn. It would make sense that Karen did this because of the personal break up situation. It is sad, though, that the state might suffer because of this. I voted for Keith. I always believed him because I worked at women's shelter. In my experience in working there I never saw a man who never abused his wife abuse a girlfriend later on. It would be pretty rare thing for this to be the case. She also is not putting the video out there. A journalist talked to me on the night of the primary who is in public broadcasting. She was supposed to show this video to a female journalist near Alexandria. She never did this. Even when the investigators wanted it, she did not produce it. Also it would be very difficult to videotape him dragging her if she was doing the videotaping. Someone else would have had to do it most likely. I usually support the woman, but in this case I think it was really a messy break up situation which she has not gotten over.

(35,619 posts)...showing this video to a female journalist near Alexandria?
Did she, "Yes, I'll play the video for you" and then make an excuse?

(35,619 posts)...one physical accusation against Keith Ellison.
What she says happened after they broke up in August 2016 and he wanted her to move out:
- She told friends months later he had dragged her to the bottom of a bed.
- She told the public in August 2018 that he dragged her off a bed.
- She told the investigator for the Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party in September 2018 that he couldn't drag her at all because she was filming with a phone in her left hand while holding the top of the bed with her right hand. She refused to show the investigator that alleged video. She also hasn't shown her own lawyer that alleged video.
Monahan is motivated to speak out against Keith Ellison by jealousy towards his girlfriend and having recently become a Republican: https://ericjaffa.000webhostapp.com/EllisonMonahanTimeline
