Jim Carrey torches Donald Trump yet again at L.A. gala

Jim Carrey got the award — and last laugh — Friday night.

While accepting the honorary Charlie Chaplin Award for Excellence in Comedy from the British Academy of Film and Television Arts in Los Angeles, the 56-year-old funnyman zinged President Trump repeatedly.

Holding his statuette, he quipped, “I’m glad it didn’t come in the mail,” referring to postal bombs that were allegedly shipped out by suspect Cesar Sayoc to Democratic Party pols and those opposing President Trump’s actions. “Maybe a little soon? It is my job to try.”

In honoring Chaplin, Carey referenced one of the British-born entertainer’s most seminal works.



“With ‘Modern Times,’ he criticized capitalism without a conscience, and that’s what we have now — capitalism without a conscience,” said Carrey. “He showed the common man being fed through years of brutal dehumanizing Industrial Age. he took on the American right wing of its day and its worst evils: hatred of immigrants, contempt of the truth, greed and the abuse of power. We are fighting those same evils today.”

Carrey also offered shout-outs to Brett Kavanaugh accuser Christine Blasey Ford; intelligence offer Christopher Steele, the source behind the Steele dossier; and NFL activist Colin Kaepernick.
