(16,386 posts)My sister is visiting and I am going to have some other close friends over to watch the returns. The last election party I had was kind of a bummer. People left early and some of us were in tears. Hopefully this will be a little more fun.

(42,288 posts)From 6:30 am until close to 10 pm, since I have to help deliver the votes to the central county center.
Then home for a late supper and --I hope--a celebratory bottle of champagne!

(63,922 posts)off either to celebrate or to cry, I really don't want another 2016. But Russians are involved who knows what they will do to tamper with another election.
I will remain hopeful that Americans will strike back at the ballot box in record numbers.

(21,809 posts)and I'll actually be up at 4:30 am for some breakfast before heading out to the school gymnasium (to be there by 5:30 am) to set up the polling site. We go through an elaborate systems of seals and signatures to have all materials and the polling machines at the ready for officially opening at 6 am.
There are 4 of us Election Inspectors (2 Republicans and 2 Democrats) at every poll machine (1 machine for each election district) plus 2 county Board of Elections members onsite at all times. In addition, there's a spare poll machine that won't be used unless there's a significant problem.
During the day, I'll be working with other Election Inspectors "at the other side of the table", ensuring signatures, entering their names on a sheet, handing them their ballots, and watching by the poll machine to ensure voters insert their completed ballots and urging them to stay there until the machine beeps "Ballot Successfully Cast".
During a lull in the action, I will cast my vote (this go-round, I've been assigned to the election district I vote at, so very convenient)
Also during the day (up until 3-4 pm) each of us will take 1-1/2 hours off for meal break. Since the polling place is 5 minutes away from my home, no problem.
At 4 pm, it's "all hands on deck", 'cause that's usually when the rush traffic begins, and the turnout increases dramatically.
At 9 pm, we close the polls, then go through the checklist of retrieving the recording paper and the memory card from the machine and placing them in seperate pouches. Other materials are also packed up, and there's another checklist of seals and signatures that get recorded. The Board of Elections picks up our sealed materials for delivery and recording. All this is usually done by 9:30 pm.
Then, for me, it's off to an election night party with friends.
Wednesday, I'm sleeping in (if I can actually sleep).

(23,337 posts)Signed up to drive folks to the polls in the afternoon. I plan to hole up in my room to watch election results by myself. Election night 2016 was such a nightmare....I got in the worst fight of my marriage when my spouse told me to relax, how bad can he be? It was ON. I hope to avoid that this time.

(6,806 posts)Will watch all of my veterinarian reruns where animals are saved and where many have happy endings. Thats what I will be looking for - happy 😊 endings.
I will occasionally peek at DU so that all of you can give the results to me. I rely on all of you so much. DU has been my lifeline for a very long time. I will remain hopeful until the end that the outcome favors the chance that we may just begin to awake from this nightmare.

(2,679 posts)So I will be relaxed when the returns start to come in.
I voted on Thursday. It was not busy, but it was at a non-busy time, which is why I went then.
BTW, Semdems are the Seminole County Democrats in Central FL.
The voting was weird though. Since voting and encouraging others to vote, I tell them it is easy and close so no excuses. You can't miss it. There is a crazy person with a big orange man sign on top of all the other rethug candidate's signs, waving frantically. You can't miss it.
As I said the voting was weird because of the crazy lady with the dumb sign and because there was someone else with an even dumber sign. This nut young guy more like a stoner then young rethug preppy type. Anyho, he was wearing that annoying red hat jeans and a redneck type t-shirt. His sign, wow talk about nutso. His sign says "vote desantis not for socialists, and has a hammer and sickle half assed drawn.
Then there was a sane looking woman and a normal dude. The sane woman was from the semdems. No hand made stupidity, just a regular printed one saying "vote dem", and a nice warmer welcoming smile. Don't know who the guy was there for. Think he was reporter. Glad he was there though, as I was wearing my RESIST shirt that now had a "I voted" sticker on it and I was talking to the semdem lady. I had not kind things to say about those radicalized rethugs. So we was talking and LOL, and the maga guy starts coming closer to us and he did not look like he was pleased with our chat. That's when that guy just walked over and stood right in the middle of his path. I went off to my car which was right there. The maga guy stared at me the whole time I remained on the parking lot.
It's a good thing I changed shirts. At first I was gonna wear my "Not my president" shirt.

(1,533 posts)It will be close to a 15 hour day as assistant head judge. We had an 80% turnout for the primary, can't imagine how many new voters we will be registering next Tuesday. Hoping for an incident free day, with no angry voters.
I voted by absentee ballot a couple weeks ago.

(1,004 posts)big dumb maps. Flipping to CNN only to be grossed out by their 11-person "panel of experts." Momentarily contemplate switching over to Fox to see what they're saying, but then notice it's too early for schadenfreude. Turn off TV and just go to 538 and NY Times and maybe find a few live discussion threads. Go back to MSNBC when it looks like the House is ours, confirm, then flip to Fox for the sweet, sweet schadenfreude.
You know, the usual.
