be watching something like that? Well whats important is the final message in this episode.
That message is this. When dealing with people in this world who are like trump sometimes the only way to win is to not become like them. That to me is actually total victory in more ways than one.
The sense of very real superiority to those who aspire to trumpian hatred is a reflection of having a strong moral compass. I know using the term superiority seems a bit narcissistic but I mean it in a empathetic sense. No person in their right mind could possibly think that hatred and violence towards others is something positive.
Trump is his own worst failure and he has managed to inflict himself and his failed self on us. He is in some respects an incomplete human who lashes out at those who he, unwittingly, is envious of. Sort of an Eddie Haskell but with the power to actually make life painful for those whom he is jealous.
At any rate the lesson at the end of the show was that of endurance. That sometimes you cant solve the problem the way you know it should be resolved. It takes tolerance and endurance. A refusal to give up and accept what seems at times ugly and insurmountable. These are characteristics that contemporary conservatives and republicans do not have. The idea is that ultimately we, progressives and democrats, will win out not just the day but we will win out over the evil that has consumed a minority portion of our republic.
It is not unreasonable to think that these conservatives and republicans are counting on this to be true. They know that what they are doing is harmful and wrong. But they just cant let go of hate, its the only thing they have. They know that once they are finally out of power we, the progressives and democrats, will work to restore the republic for all. They are betting on it. The evidence for that is in the policies they promulgate as they see their grip slipping away.
The dawn of that day is November 6th.

(4,221 posts)It was one of a few shows my parents would allow me to watch and I think it contributed to a strong sense of right and wrong. Plus, it reinforced good grammar, which served me later in life. I have to admit some of the people around me did a lot of he dont and had some aint usage.
But I digress, I agree with your lesson and that not becoming like trump is a win.

(6,806 posts)not be watching something like that. I remember whenever I had a cold I would watch reruns of that show. Always made me feel better. Like wrapping a warm blanket around me and sliding into comfort and happiness. I, too, remain positive that we will win in the end.
