WTF? "Swastika Saturday"
A Pittsburgh-based band pulled out of a performance at a central Ohio Halloween attraction Saturday, part of a storm of criticism aimed at a Swastika Saturday theme at the venue.
Haunted Hoochie, also called Dead Acres, in Pataskala, was blasted on social media for the theme, with many calling it outright hate and others poor taste, especially on a day when a gunman killed 11 people and wounded six others at a synagogue in Pittsburgh.
Revina Lower, founder of the band Only Flesh, said members received text messages and emails from concerned fans and friends as they made the three-hour drive from Pittsburgh. It was the first they had learned of the swastika theme.
Whether it was done for shock factor, racism or just plain ignorance, we cannot promote that kind of message, Lower said in response to a Facebook message seeking comment. I personally live 10 minutes from the synagogue that was attacked, and I cannot even try to understand what the families and friends of the murdered are going through. We need to stand for them.
