WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A group of former U.S. intelligence and Special Forces operatives is set to launch a media campaign, including TV ads, that scolds President Barack Obama for taking credit for the killing of Osama bin Laden and argues that high-level leaks are endangering American lives.
Leaders of the group, the Special Operations OPSEC Education Fund Inc, say it is nonpartisan and unconnected to any political party or presidential campaign. It is registered as a so-called social welfare group, which means its primary purpose is to further the common good and its political activities should be secondary.
In the past, military exploits have been turned against presidential candidates by outside groups, most famously the Swift Boat ads in 2004 that questioned Democratic nominee John Kerry's Vietnam War service.
The OPSEC group says it is not political and aims to save American lives. Its first public salvo is a 22-minute film that includes criticism of Obama and his administration. The film, to be released on Wednesday, was seen in advance by Reuters.

(8,571 posts)I've been researching Ben Smith, self proclaimed Navy Seal. He served supposedly from 2000-2006, he is a contributor to Breitbart and a member of the Tea Party. He supposedly helped get 13 Tea Partiers elected to Congress. His whole premise is that Obama is Un-American and doesn't have the right to tell the military what to do. America got Osama. Blah Blah. He wrote an open letter to President Obama that is really nonsense. He is also an actor, and IMO he is trying to attach on to Seal Team 6 and gain notoriety. He went on fox news with Heraldo to try and gain accolades. It is BS that he tries to gain notoriety and accuse Obama of bragging, when Obama did nothing of the sort.
After he wrote his open letter to Obama, Snopes disputed his facts http://www.snopes.com/politics/military/navyseal.asp
I'm still researching this guy. He also has a FB.

Seems the Real Seals and those in the Military who do know exactly what PObama has done could counteract this teabag asshole..no problem!

(18,541 posts)And two years with the Seals? It costs way too much to train a Seal to keep them around for just two years. Was he discharged due to mental issues? Misconduct?
Dude needs to put-up or STFU.

(36,418 posts)If the operation had gone badly wrong, you'd better believe Obama would have had to take the blame. So, as far as it goes, he also deserved the overall credit for its success.
BtW: The President can legally declassify anything, so it's really not "a leak of classified information."

(2,124 posts)This line of attack will strike deep into Obama's core demographic ... Militaristic middle-aged white men!
Also, it could backfire and only serve to remind everyone that Obama ordered the successful hit on Bin Laden, when Obama himself actually hardly ever mentions it.

(31,706 posts)With a billion dollars of corportists money aimed to try to slime him in any way possible, I was expecting some "military" group to come along; hiding in anonnymity and launching charges that can't be disproven without compromising national security. In this year's polarized political atmosphere I don't see these attacks having much traction other than reinforcing existing hatreed.
BTW...Corsi is out there with a new "book" that slimes the President with allegation of a gay marriage. The right wing is throwing everything they can to bring this administration down...and it will get worse...

(2,198 posts)I think on every occasion the President lauded the Navy Seals, the American people and all the other people involved. I hope the Dems are preparing an ad to air in response and include some comments about the other side using downgrading acts of valor and success to political fodder.
