Pompeo says 'handful more weeks' before U.S. responds to Khashoggi killing

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said on Thursday it would take a "handful more weeks" before the United States has enough evidence to impose sanctions in response to the killing of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul last month.

Pompeo, in an interview with KMOX radio in St. Louis, said President Donald Trump had made it clear Washington would respond to the killing. He said the administration is "reviewing putting sanctions on the individuals that we have been able to identify to date that ... were engaged in that murder."

He and Trump are hoping in a few weeks everyone will forget about the whole thing.

To wait a few weeks on Saudi after Khashoggi's killing will conveniently coincide with the 1st drastic sanction cuts to Iran's enormous oil market.

Just guessing here but Trump isn't going after Saudi for anything but an oil deal once Iran is squeezed out of the market.

We'll have to watch this volatile space on Nov 4th or right about Midterm election time.

Iran is pissed & its anyone's guess as to what the EU & Iran choose to do about Trump & Saudi's decision as to the fate of their oil business.

I believe Iran is about the 5th largest oil producer in the world.
Trump has threatened any nation that violates his sanctions on buying Iran's oil, so its kind of a potential powderkeg brewing.

We shall see how it plays out on & after Nov 4th
