(CNN) - A former four-term Democratic congressman from Alabama and one time strong supporter of President Barack Obama will campaign for Mitt Romney Wednesday.
A Romney campaign aide confirms to CNN that Artur Davis will stump for the presumptive Republican presidential nominee in the battleground state of Virginia.
Davis, who is black, may be best known for seconding Obama's nomination at the Democratic National Convention in 2008, when he served as an Obama campaign co-chairman. Davis said he had hoped Obama's presidency would make a huge dent in race relations, as well as move the Democratic Party further to the center.
In 2010, Davis made an unsuccessful bid for governor of Alabama. In May he announced he was switching to the GOP, leaving the door open to a future political bid as a Republican.

(6,539 posts)Davis says this is about race relations. It's like John Stewart reporting on how the Republicans say there were no terrorist attacks when bush was pResident. John Stewart violently shakes his head and asks about 9/11!
The Republican party IS a racist INSTITUTION! The only dent they make in race relations is the dent in the voter roles when they deny African Americans their God-given right to vote.
YES! God-given. You know, since the repukes have been whining about God-given rights over the past few fricken weeks.

(19,458 posts)Yep.. the republicans will always welcome guys like him to help them out, but I hope he doesn't expect to get anything more out of it than being a prop.. like flown in to clap for Romney at the NAACP. Ambition can rob people of their core values.. and I predict that Davis will be indicted for something, should he get into office again. That's the personality of most party switchers who switch after they realize they can't win in their current party. It shows a complete lack of moral compass.
