perhaps this national vote percent means so many seat pickups is baloney

saying dems need to have 10% higher turnout to win X seats, seems silly. Seems to me we only need to have so many specific seats we win against so many specific repubs. who cares if CA and NY have low or high turnouts if the targeted repubs go down. Even if every voter stays home outside the targeted repubs we still win

1. Technically, of course this is correct. However,

it gets very complicated to say we need x% more turnout in this district and y% turnout in that district and so on and so on.

But to use a single national figure and just say how many seats do we win if turnout is up x% across the nation, that gives a good understanding of how realistic various results are or how hard we have to work to get there. Even if, yes, the turnout in safe or hopeless districts doesn't matter.

Additionally, it gives some insight into the effect of things that may affect turnout on a national scale, such as a major scandal or announcement affecting the whole country.

2. Encouraging people not to vote is foolhardy. We can't afford to pick and choose where to vote.

Whether it's NY or Calif. we should ask for EVERYONE to vote.

2016 should've taught us all that lesson.

3. The idea is to win as many seats as possible, not just get a slight majority

Trying to just target individual races is why the Democrats fell behind so much in the past 8 years. We need to grab every seat we can. Incumbancy has advantages if we want to hold onto the seats. It also brings in new people into the process. I can't believe anyone would suggest that anyone shouldn't vote today. There may be seats that aren't as high profile that we may be able to pickup.
