Romney Would Eliminate Funding For Amtrak Despite Record-High Ridership

I expect to see Joe doing this

Forget Joe for a minute - seriously??? They seriously want to stop funding Amtrak??

Amtrak announced earlier this year that it is on pace to break the ridership record it set last year. By 2040, Amtrak “Amtrak said traffic in the [Northeast] corridor could reach 43.5 million passengers, almost four times the level today.”

I guess until the GOPers figure out a way to make money off of Amtrak - Amtrak is worthless to them.

R&R are like a couple of bullies that want to destroy everything that is not important - to them.

Mitt is under the mistaken belief that all people have their own private jets and don't need public transportation

and the Pullman Porters Union was instrumental in the early Civil rights movement. The railroads also enabled the Great Migration, allowing many African Americans to finally escape the plantation culture. Maybe those are reasons republicans hate railroads now!

I've done 6 cross country trips on Amtrak, and countless trips from Flint to Chicago and Los Angeles to San Diego. We need to expand Amtrak. REALLY expand Amtrak.

7. The Northeast Corridor has especially high ridership and many people wouldn't ever want that ended.

From DC to Boston (and then there is the Downeaster from Boston to Portland, ME) is much more favorable to many riders to flying since it's easy and there are rarely delays. It also doesn't have the hassle of getting to and from an airport, dealing with Airport Security and for those of us who find flying a royal pain in the ass for relatively short distances - the favored way of traveling.

Also, a lot of people don't like dealing w/ the airlines or flying and can't imagine not having the option of taking the train - the Acela is a great way to travel, especially if you can expense it.

Similar analogy - Biden is putting a burr under Romney's saddle. This is fun. There are so many ways to irritate Romney and he falls for it every time. Can't wait for the debates to begin.
