ThinkProgress:
Many speculated that Trump fired Attorney General Jeff Sessions and replaced him with a loyalist on Wednesday, one day after Republicans endured big losses in the midterm elections, to offer further protection against Special Counsel Robert Muellers investigation of Russian interference in the 2016 U.S. election now that Democrats will have subpoena power with a House majority.
But Vanity Fairs Gabriel Sherman reports the president is also very depressed about Trump Jr.s possible exposure to criminal charges as part of Muellers probe. In recent days, according to three sources, Don Jr. has been telling friends he is worried about being indicted as early as this week. One person close to Don Jr. speculated that Mueller could indict him for making false statements to Congress and the F.B.I. about whether he had told his father about the June 2016 Trump Tower meeting with Russians to gather dirt on Hillary Clinton. This source had heard that the case could revolve around Trumps former deputy campaign chairman, Rick Gates, whos cooperating with Mueller and who was deeply involved in the campaign at the time of the meeting. Trump, this person continued, is very upset about the risks Don Jr. faces. The president is very depressed, this person said.

(3,922 posts)...and can he? Whitaker, as "acting" AG has the power to dead end indictments.
Any scholars out there know if Whitaker can stop indictments if they have already been filed but are still sealed?

(9,875 posts)Whitaker could not simply quash the indictments. If he wanted to dismiss them he would have to publicly apply to the courts and state the reasons why the indictment should be dismissed. The court would then rule on his motion.

(33,643 posts)someone else, even their own children ... in a way that could be described as anything approaching 'love'.
They are not.
To the extent that Trump cares whether DJTJr is indicted or even imprisoned (HIGHLY unlikely), he cares only insofar as it looks bad for him ... it makes him appear to his followers as though he lacks power and influence. He 'cares' ... because it'll be perceived as making HIM ... look like 'less'.
As such, he's not DEPRESSED about it, he's angry about it. He's not 'worried about his son', he's worried about HIMSELF.
GUARANTEED.
And he'll throw DJTJr under the bus to save his own ass in a NY Minute if that's his only out ... or even just the most convenient out.

(13,571 posts)Like when he said repeatedly that the Trump Tower meeting was so nothingburger that they left after a few minutes. Remember that?
I think he knows he is going to be indicted for something(s) much bigger than lying to Congress/FBI.
