If you won't support making public 5 years of tax returns before running in a Democratic primary,

I don't think you belong here.

We've seen what happens when a candidate refused to release his, and the only way to maintain moral authority on this issue is to require it of our own nominees.

And, no, it isn't in the Constitution. That doesn't matter. The Constitution allows any natural born 35 year old to run. It doesn't require anyone to run AS A DEMOCRAT. Each state party sets its own rules, and this is one they should all agree on.

I just worked for a candidate who didn't release his tax returns. His opponent kept asking him to (and didn't release his own). The reason he gave that it was unprecedented for a congressional candidate to release tax returns, the the GOP congressman didn't release his own and didn't ask Trump to release his.

Though I know it is not likely to become a norm at the congressional level. It should be though. Many get rich off their public service and we should be able to know about that.

Candidates who don't release their tax returns are hiding something. Trump is clearly hiding things by not releasing his.

I get that Democrats feel that it puts them at an unfair advantage to release theirs when opponents won't, but this is a bad trend toward secrecy.

If one person challenges their opponent to release his (her) taxes, then they should do the same.

... is, in my humble opinion, something that disqualifies someone from consideration.

Each state party sets its own rules, and this is one they should all agree on.
Anyone who refuses to release their tax returns is effectively shut-out as being a viable Democratic contender. At that point, his/her only option would be to run as a spoiler "Independent" or "Green" candidate to circumvent the party rules. All I'm saying is that this would (for vanity purposes) only serve to sabotage the Democrat and guarantee that Trump serves another full term.
