My father and stepmother, rabid hate-mongering Trumpers, are going apesh*t over Cortez ("that socialist" AND she's a woman!), and are beside themselves over the (gasp!) Muslims that were elected. And all those females!
Kind of amusing. Feels good after the last two years.

If only the Democrats would elect men who would agree with the Republicans most of the time, things would be much better. (sarcasm, of course)

There will probably be a lot more repuglicons in sheep's clothing for the next few years until, they hope, the stench from their rotten politics has been forgotten. I suggest we keep a registry of all one-time a-holes to vet them for possible inclusion into the human race.

(9,696 posts)When their outrage slows down, you can also mention the lesbian Native American.
Honeycombe8
(37,648 posts)You know, I would have mentioned that, but I didn't know that a couple of those elected are lesbians. It wasn't an issue in their districts, I suppose. Or I missed that. I'm sure Fox News mentioned it a trillion times.

(37,648 posts)She is my idea of a beautiful "mature" woman. Natural hair, healthy looking, confident looking, ...I don't know. Something about her. I thought that if I could look like that as I age, I'd be very happy. Not Fox News Jenine Pirro cosmetic surgery looking fakey...I don't know. Hard to explain. But I didn't know she's a lesbian.
I think Cortez is, too, maybe? Someone mentioned another one.
It's really such a non-issue these days that it's hard to imagine why it was such a big deal just a few years ago.

I have a feeling that given how pathetic tRump was in trying to pull off this debacle, he left finger prints all over the place. And Putin let him do it. When the axe falls you can bet your sweet ass whose head will be on the chopping block. There will be a cacophony of mixed sounds across the land. His base will be distraught with grief and anger. The rest of us will be celebrating and dancing in the streets. Not exactly the way tRump envisioned it. 😂😂😂

(6,110 posts)In another decade or 2, there will be few racists alive to make a difference.
Honeycombe8
(37,648 posts)There will always be racists. But I think maybe fewer. Look at my father. He had five kids with my mother...although I'm the only liberal, none of us are racist like him. He wasn't around much, so maybe that's it. It also has a counter-effect when you're around someone when you're young, who is hateful, mean, and negative. It sends you in the opposite direction sometimes.
People think I'm liberal because I'm the only one who moved away to "the big city" outside the south. But that's not true. I was always this way. I remember being sad about segregation and the plight of blacks when I was about 10 years old. That's kinda strange for a kid in the deep south. I'm old enough that I lived my youth in a segregated society. (My mother noticed, apparently. She told me when I grew up that she was worried I'd marry a black man. LOL.)

(37,648 posts)He doesn't live there, so it didn't mean much to him, one way or the other. As for the AZ candidate, he told ME that she was lesbian (he didn't say bi-sexual); I didn't know. He's totally okay with everyone having equal opportunities and winning elections, no matter what.
