Knowing what we know now: was that an inside joke? Was it sarcasm? The final step in obstruction of justice?

Comey didn't mean it as a compliment.

I think the same thing is at play here. Rosenstein said what he needed to say to protect his job. Is that laudable? Meh, depends on how virtuous or necessary you think Rosenstein's planned future actions are. Could also just be really self-serving. We won't know until this is all over, and everyone has written their memoirs.

Hope it ends differently, but so far haven't got much -- but a bunch of rumors -- implicating trump and his kids.
