Judge in Georgia orders county to accept late ballots

A judge in Dougherty County has ordered the county to accept absentee ballots postmarked by Election Day and received by Friday.

The ruling was a result of a lawsuit filed by the Democratic Party of Georgia.

Abrams for Governor campaign chairwoman Allegra Lawrence-Hardy says the campaign will continue to take legal action as necessary until every eligible vote is counted.

he campaign filed a complaint in federal court asking for an injunction to direct the board of elections to count any absentee ballots received between 7 p.m. on Election Day and close of business Friday, which is consistent with the way that counting overseas military and overseas citizens' ballots is handled.

Unofficial returns from Tuesday's midterm election show Republican Brian Kemp with 50.3 percent of the vote. That's a lead that would make him the victor without a runoff.

Abrams would've won easily if Kemp hadn't been systemically purging Dem votes for years prlor.

He knew he or some other repug would need typical repug cheating to win in the future.

That's what they do. Hope the long arc of morally justice MLK spoke of leans our way finally.

disenfranchised. Such bullshit! If people are actually forging signatures or trying to vote while not being the person they are claiming to be, that's FRAUD... a serious CRIME that should be prosecuted!! They rile everyone up about nonexistent voter fraud, and then just give this a pass?! And by "give this a pass," I mean they just disenfranchise thousands of voters without telling them, but they don't actually charge them with a crime? Like, all is forgiven as long as they don't have to count these "illegal" votes? [And this has been an issue even in blue states like CA, but the ACLU sued and now we have the "Every Vote Counts Act which requires local election officials to notify voters of mismatched signatures at least eight days before election results become certified. Voters then have several days to resolve the issue." https://www.sacbee.com/news/state/california/article220840520.html]

And the "lose it or use it" laws, too... If they want to mandate that voters vote in every election, then do that, but of course that's the LAST thing they want. (And then there are those who are purged even though they DID vote in the previous election.)

It's their only winning strategy in the states that haven't been left completely clueless due to Brain Drain and lack of diversity.

The runoff election will be on Dec. 4 if Abrams gets enough votes to trigger a runoff.

Abrams in GA, Guillem and Nelson in FL, and a few others learned from 2000 and 2004 elections that never give up until the last vote.

This is what is means to be tough to the end.

Depends on who sent in those absentee/mail in ballots, as to whether she can get a runoff.

That's what I read yesterday.
