We were reminded this afternoon, this isn't just any Veterans' Day weekend (which is important in itself), this is the ONE HUNDREDTH commemoration of the end of WWI. The cemetery is where AMERICANS who fought and died in France are buried.
And the president of the United States couldn't be bothered to pay his respects? No president in our entire history would have missed this, and to miss it for such a lame excuse?
Damn, he'd just better STFU the next time an athlete kneels during the National Anthem.

The world is watching what is taking place. EVERY Veteran and Active Duty Soldier, regardless of party, should be outraged that at this moment and on this hallowed day, of the behavior of Donald Trump. RESPECT, HONOR, CLASS are attributes Donald Trump will NEVER possess.

No potty breaks or bad circulation in his legs? If so just keep feeding him his favorite foods, any meal could be his last so let him at least enjoy his food.

It's a little bit farther than the trip from downtown DC to the Trump National Golf Course in Loudoun County, Virginia. He's made that trip many times.

No wonder he couldn't be bothered. Besides, he probably thought Belleau Wood was Natalie Wood's mother.
I know Paris traffic is horrendous, but it is not as difficult to navigate on a Saturday morning as it is during the week. He could have made 85 Km in 2 hours max. If his digestive tract can't handle it, then he should have stayed home. It looks a LOT worse that he flew to Paris and stayed downtown. If he had a serious medical issue, his staff has no business keeping it quiet. If there is any danger of Ayatollah Pence even becoming acting president, we need to know so we can start loading up on garlic and silver nitrate now.

(1,588 posts)it wasn't even a rain... It was a drizzle...
Trump was originally scheduled to take Marine 1 to the memorial site, situated 50 miles outside Paris. But gray skies and drizzle forced the trip to be called off.
The press should not let him live this down... disgusting. Truly disgusting.

(15,696 posts)...the other great uncle's left eyeball is buried there. Schrapnel injury.
And these were scholarly men, fighting from one trench to the next because it was their duty to serve.
Trump had a hissy fit today, of all days, when Europe treated him the way he deserves, and here at home thousands of our soldiers are guarding barbed wire over the holiday weekend.what an asshole he is.

(2,097 posts)it's not so much buried, as left on the ground and became part of it? I mean, think about a battlefield in France in WWI, the mud and the blood, and the bits, as they try to get the wounded out amongst the smoke, and noise and mess.
He may of come home, just without that eye.

(15,696 posts)He was a teacher, who lived with his sister, who never remarried after her husband died in the war to end all wars. The medics who treated him on the battlefield always buried the medical waste, with the chaplain presiding over the burial.
My great aunt and uncle went to France every year to lay flowers for her husband. They both lived until the 1960's, and I was always fascinated by them.

That said, I think the orange maggot is having a nervous breakdown of sort right now. The mid terms hit him hard and the recounts in Arizona, Florida and Georgia are wrecking his narrative of winning.

(41,984 posts)It was incredibly important because it was the first time a poet wrote about war not as noble and epic, but as horrible and real.
You might know, but for the room, Wilfred Owen, who wrote it, was a wonderful poet, a gay man, a soldier writing from personal experience who was taken to a hospital in mid war and successfully treated for PTSD, and was sent back to die.
So hes one of the vets dishonored this weekend.

(2,830 posts)This was a deliberate action of insult to the French people. It was another attempt to create a larger rift between the US and its traditional allies. It's no coincidence that Trump will be meeting (has met?) Putin while there. There is no way that it could be seen as anything but a direct affront to France and every other country who fought with the Allies.

(115,730 posts)the fact that the cemetery is in France and he didn't visit it is not an affront to France, it's to us.

(10,252 posts)It's too much work. He's lazy. He's only interested in the prestige of his office, which thanks to his behavior is greatly tarnished. I knew last week that his trip to Europe for this event would be a complete butt-show. That's what all Trump public appearances have devolved into - embarrassing butt-shows. Even more egregious is his failure to attend the Paris Peace Forum hosted by Macron after this week-end's events. Absolutely shameful. Our President should be at that Peace Forum in a leadership role. But no, Trump will be absent.

(2,682 posts)He's all about perceptions. He must have had a vision of the shinny helicopter descending from the sky while all eyes watched its approach and landing. Something other world leaders wouldn't have. He would step out into the sunshine to the applause of adoring fans. But drizzle and no sunshine don't make good TV. Arriving by car like the others doesn't present the same visual opportunities so why bother. Remember, it's ALWAYS about him!
I doubt he has the cognitive ability to configure a subtle insult to Macron or any one else. His insults are generally more direct.
Either way, he is an embarrassment to our country.
