Three simple comebacks to the Republican mouthpiece at the bus stop.

Simple comebacks to the following Republican memes

1. Obama 'gutted' Medicare by $700 billion. "He didn't. He made it more efficient by eliminating a wasteful program (Medicare Part D) and using the money to plug the 'donut hole' in the Prescription Drug Program (that Ryan VOTED for). But if the preservation of Medicare and Social Security really concern you that much, you should trust the party that CREATED those programs to preserve them more than the party that opposed their creation from day one."

2. Obama doesn't love America. "Actions speak louder than words. At least Obama loves America enough to PAY his TAXES here, and SUPPORT it. Unlike his opponent, who uses his money to support the governments of Switzerland and The Cayman Islands. Isn't it a little ironic that Mitt Romney wants to be Commander in Chief of the U.S. Army while his tax dollars are paying to equip the SWISS Army?"

3. Obama is Jimmy Carter Part II. "Isn't it ironic that there is only one Democratic President (Carter) that Democrats are (wrongly) embarrassed to talk about, and only one Republican President (Reagan) that Republicans are NOT embarrassed to talk about? Looking forward to that continuous, three day tribute to Ronald Reagan at this year's Republican Convention."

. . . speaks VOLUMES on their ability to think, reason and debate.

Reagan gave Wall Street and Corporate America the Trickle Down gun to kill their workers' livelihoods with. America has never been and will never be the same after that addled oil puppet's reign. Bewsh 43, of course, took the reins of the Reagan car crash and proceeded to play GTA3 with America's wealth and prosperity. It'll take a decade, possibly longer, to recover from it. EVERY move America makes has to be the correct one at this point. 2010 proves they're realllllllly slow learners and because they're slow learners, they'll pay the price.

And much better since the ACA used some of that $716B to close the donut hole!
My folks are paying way less for prescriptions this year.

The program that will be eliminated is Medicare Advantage, the private-insurance administered plans (thanks to GWB as part of the unfunded Part D law) that soak up Medicare $$ for profits and overhead--the waste and inefficiency that the Ryan plan wants for *all* Medicare.

Its nice to have the facts..for those that care about facts..but they have been listening to far right talk for so long that I am sure they will just close their minds and insist he is a socialist, Marxist and communist who is dividing the country and ignore whatever you say.

Remember the song from The Boxer" "Man hears what he wants to hear and disregards the rest"?

We know what we are dealing with but let me give you a striking example.

I once got into a discussion with a woman on the radio who was a big Bush supporter and fully supported the war in Iraq.
I asked her this; "What bit of information, what new fact, what occurrence would it take, no matter how unlikely, to convince you the war was a mistake?" Without a moments hesitation and quite proudly, she said "None"!

Just to be clear I summarized by saying, "So you are saying that no new facts or information no matter what that might to your attention would not change your mind?" And she said "That is right!"

Winston Churchill once said "When the facts change, my mind changes" but apparently this does not apply to her and millions like her.

And there is the old saying "Convince me against my will, and I will believe it still!

They believe what they do because they want to believe it....the trick is to make them WANT to believe otherwise...and if you figure out that one..you will have your fortune made!!

Sad but true commentary on human nature..

is just the most absurd thing ever. People who think that are almost certainly "birthers" who also believe the conspiracy theories "he pals around with terrorists" and is a Kenyan-born muslin.

The donut hole that he eliminated was in Medicare Part D benefits. Agree with your sentiment, but 1) is not factual. The savings come from cuts in reimbursements (cuts agreed to by providers), not by any change in Medicare benefits.

I think just those parts are sufficient to shut them up. And if they are smart enough (not completely brainwashed), just those two statements should make them think at least a little. I might want to rephrase them in questions. Sometimes questions they can't answer show them how illogical their point of view might really be.

I might say this:

1. I understand your concern about Medicare, however if you really think it is true that Obama "gutted" Medicare, you might want to do a little research or just ask yourself a couple of simple questions. Why would any Democrat want to harm a program that is loved my millions of Americans and was created by Democrats? Which political party should be trusted to protect Medicare, the party that created it or the party that opposed it from the very beginning?

2. I want a President that truly loves America, also. Which candidate has demonstrated enough faith in America to invest his money right here in America and to release his tax returns for review by everyone? Obama. Which one invested money in foreign countries, possibly to avoid larger tax payments to America? Which one refuses to disclose tax returns that he already gave to the McCain campaign in 2008? Romney.

Actions speak louder than words in both cases.

Of course there are similar issues on which to use the same techniques .... like getting Bin Laden and saving the auto companies. I believe Obama's statements and actions on those two issues also demonstrated a sincere love of America.
