Jan Brewer Signs Executive Order Denying State Benefits To Children Of Undocumented Immigrants

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/08/15/jan-brewer-executive-order_n_1785482.html

PHOENIX, Aug 15 (Reuters) - Arizona Republican Governor Jan Brewer, in yet another clash with the White House, issued an order on Wednesday barring undocumented immigrants who qualify for temporary legal status in the United States from receiving any state or local public benefits.

The action was a response to relaxed deportation rules issued by the Obama administration on Wednesday.

Brewer, whose state has been at the center of the country's immigration debate, issued an executive order denying state or local benefits to immigrants applying under the new federal immigration rules. The order would bar them from obtaining an Arizona driver's license or a state-issued identification card.

As many as 1.7 million people could qualify for the temporary federal program, which enables certain undocumented immigrants to apply for work permits, Social Security cards and driver's licenses, according to the Pew Hispanic Center.

If there is a hell, this woman is going to burn there. She would allow children to starve than to provide benefits for them. What a wretched woman. How soon until her term ends?

their parents (they weren't born here) and are subject to the President's recent change in deportation rules - the ones who can now apply to stay and get work permits, etc. If they'd been born here they'd be citizens and there wouldn't be a problem. What this evil woman is doing is trying to prevent the people who qualify for the federal program from getting any state benefits - not even a drivers' license. Brewer's order might be illegal because of issues of federal preemption, but it's also evil.

She is just wrong on so many levels.

It is not like it is a free hand to those kids. The law would require them to have served in the military or gotten a degree from college. All things that show they want to be productive citizens and contribute to society. Hell we have so many native blood suckers living off the federal government it is ridiculous not to recognize the kids.

And oh unless you forgot it the Native Americans might want to talk to you about how those of us of European decent are immigrants and maybe we should shut the hell up when it comes to immigration.

There is a term "Pre-Columbian" that is commonly used. Since most US citizens have forgotten history or never learned it in those stupid assed schools where people are taught the world is only about 6,000 years old let me remind you "Pre-Columbian" refers to the time before Columbus and Europeans invaded the North American continent and overtook it.

You want to talk about immigration GOP? Perhaps you should speak to the Native Americans you sent on the "Trail of Tears."

Shouldn't our public servants actually care about people? I don't care if you are undocumented. If this means humans cannot get health care that is just rude and vindictive.

Yep, there is a special place in hell for people who would do such a thing to other humans.

(From the blog of Arizona Republic columnist E.J. Montini)

Politicians aren’t supposed to operate on spite.

Unless, maybe they’re from Arizona.

...

Denying young people who now can work the opportunity to drive legally, to more comfortably travel from one place to another – to get a job – is just hateful.

And counterproductive.

...

Issuing an executive order, on the other hand, is a good way to re-emphasize one's venomous feelings toward the Obama administration. And a governor who titles her book "Scorpions for Breakfast" is never lacking for venom.

Ms. Brewer has no say over federal benefits.

In fact, I think she's daring Obama to come riding to the rescue during the campaign season. Imagine the ads -- "Obama gives aid to illegals!" Cynical and cruel but there nonetheless.

while if an immigrant is legal with an H-1B visa, s/he takes jobs away from Amuricans and should go back to his/her country and stay there (as evidenced by recent posts).

A person who is in the U.S. illegally should not be getting any benefits from the U.S. I realize this may not be a statement that most here on DU would agree with, but the truth of the matter is that we have plenty of legal immigrants and U.S. citizens who need those benefits. Not enough money is available to everyone. We can argue that a lot of money is spent on stupid items such as wars and corporate welfare. However, the reality of 'now' is that there isn't enough money in benefits to help out U.S. citizens and legal immigrants in need, much less for illegal immigrants.

I certainly agree that children who are not U.S. citizens and who are in the country illegally and can now benefit from deferred action should be able to continue their studies and/or continue military service and/or join the workforce in the open (as many already work under the table).

As for the social security cards and driver's licenses, I know for a fact that the SSA will be issuing restricted social security numbers (with the inscription 'Not valid for employment withough USCIS permission' or something to that effect). I'm not sure how deferred action can overcome the requirements of most states to prove legal presence, since deferred action does NOT grant any immigration status, but merely postpones any deportation action that may come in the future.

A lot of legal immigrants as well as those who are going through the process to sponsor spouses and adult children are very upset about this Deferred Action order. One of the requirements for requesting permanent residence requires proof that the immigrant will not require any government assistance.

As a legal immigrant, I don't see why legal immigrants should be held to higher standards than illegal immigrants.

As dispicable as she is the Obama justice dept has to tread lightly on this for now.
This was planned by the GOP this close to a national election.
It will not play out well during the election. We also need moderates to win this election.

Let it go for now and it will fade away in a couple of weeks . After the election let the justice dept file a law suit.

not now.

Just my take on it.

47. Paper trail...Jan Brewer was unwed pregnant teen
Fri Aug 24, 2012, 01:49 AM
Aug 2012

I have just reviewed the marriage records for Gov. Jan Brewer, who has mysteriously made sure her marital date is in none of her official biographies, which made my Spidey sense go off. Janice Kay Drinkwine was married to John Leon Brewer on January 1, 1970 in Nevada. Marriage license #1970092746 was recorded in Clark County on January 7, 1970.

That makes her married for 42 years. Miss Family Values has a son named Ronald Brewer who is 48 years old and currently locked up in an insane asylum. Said son collected social security on his deceased father's account, not John, who is still alive. That's known, but so far from a search of the internet, no news organization has put two and two together, which add up to Miss Family Values had been married before...something she has denied. Though it had to be assumed she had a kid from somewhere. Well, I dug deeper. It seems an 18-year-old Janice Kay Drinkwine married a Ronald R. Warren on May 18, 1963 in Los Angeles. They had a son, also a Ronald R. Warren on Nov 27, 1963 in Los Angeles. She was a knocked up teenager, when she got married to Warren. This during an era, when it would've been quite scandalous.
