Beautiful, *BRIGHT* and earthy, she faced down Republican jokes at her appearance not JUST with grace, but in a way in which she actually *thrived*. She's proven her mettle at Oxford, and I am certain she'd make on hell of a public servant.
GO CHELSEA, GO!!!!!

But she *might* be passionate about something. She *might* be able to be a good public servant...it's just that Republicans normally *have* servants, they don't strive to become one.

(114,904 posts)Her affluence? Nope, grew up in New Canaan, CT in an affluent family, went private and boarding schools, never had to worry about paying for college.
If I was going to be jealous of her, it would be for having two loving, supporting parents. I had two who... well, let's just say they weren't that. But I don't begrudge that to any child. It's something I fervently wish for all children, and something I managed to do for my kid.
The jealously meme is just sub-par "thinking". Or rather, it's not thinking at all. And I freely admit, I'm impatient with stupid. I wish Chelsea Clinton well. I simply don't think her career choices to date bespeak of a career in liberal politics.
LaydeeBug
(10,291 posts)You seem to be VERY jealous of her bonafides, my dear. "Just what has *she* done?" seems to be your meme, and you certainly like to bring up her affluence (or perhaps your own? who knows, as jealousy can be very tricky).
No one said, "Oh Chelsea Clinton had an affluent upbringing, SHE *MUST* run for office", but it certainly didn't stop you from inferring it. New Canaan, you say? We can at least agree that EVEN IN SPITE of being raised in an affluent suburb of Connecticut, HER upbringing in the Governor's mansion and the White House was probably...oh hell, I'm just going to SAY it, it was ABSOLUTELY *MORE* posh, right? Being the daughter of the leader of the free world during a time of great economic prosperity and peace *might* raise your profile in those circles, and it won't certainly be STUPID to think otherwise, and we know how you feel about stupidity, right? Hell, you might just have to "breathlessly strand your desperation" around some *other* pretense, like that she isn't "qualified"
Of course...
She *IS* qualified, and she DID give an interview where she may have indicated that the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. Some of us are happy about that. Some of us...not so much.
But I agree with you about sub-par "thinking". There's been a LOT of that going on lately. Maybe one day, we can PRAY that people like you will start to practice what they preach.

(114,904 posts)you're going from inane to ridiculous in no time at all.
Was her upbringing more "posh" than mine? It was entirely different. Are you suggesting I'm jealous of every child who's ever grown up in the White House?
Your post is sad and small and, well, pathetic. But then again, that seems to be standard for your posts.
LaydeeBug
(10,291 posts)I don't need to obfuscate. I don't need to conflate, and binary thinking is stinking thinking to be sure.
"What has *she* done?" <<<------- A poised, intelligent women gave an interview wherein she stated she hasn't ruled out a run for office. Pity that caused so much consternation from you.
and telling.
Your post is desperate and jealous, and well, deplorable. But somehow, that is par for the course with you and how JEALOUS you are. Meow. Meow meow meow. Hahahaha complain some more about someone who has already accomplished more than you ever will. It's a *scream*
cali
(114,904 posts)it's sad.
sorry, but your bizarro conviction that I'm jealous, couldn't be farther from the truth.
Oh, and you know nothing whatsoever about my values and my accomplishments. Not to mention that I'm not complaining about her. I'm complaining, if you will, about people like YOU. Oooh, maybe I'm jealous of you too, honey.
It's not very nice of me, but it is amusing watching you lose your cool and freak out.
LaydeeBug
(10,291 posts)Set up whatever strawman you like, I won't be bullied. Oh, and YOU were the one who posited that your New Canaan upbringing and "not having to worry about paying for college" was an impetus for your NOT being jealous of her. But it's very clear that you are, and it's telling.
Meow meow meow meow
cali
(114,904 posts)the glam shot and the use of the word "Awesome" are neon bright tells. YOU are the one that suggested I was jealous. I merely responded.
and you're not doing a very good job at pretending you're not pissed.
Your jealous thing is akin to the wingnutty accusation that dems are stoking class envy.
But please, return to your Tiger Beat celebrity worship.
LaydeeBug
(10,291 posts)ps. "Glam shots" are posed. The picture in the OP is clearly not a glam shot. Pity your private school upbringing didn't teach you that. It also didn't teach you how to stop digging when you've dug yourself so far in your hole.
So I guess that "neon bright" tell just *might* be how desperate you are. "What has she ever done?". "Are you saying I'm *jealous*? I'm not because I was raised in New Canaan, CT and didn't have to worry about college, blah, blah" and then..."it was entirely different" Bwahahahahaha!
You're God damned right it was entirely different. Anyone raised with an once of class would have stopped this vitriolic desperation eons ago. Nice *try*. No dice.
cali
(114,904 posts)and that, aerobic exercise and narcotics are about all that gets me through a day. Aerobic exercise and PT make me cry- though the results are worth it- morphine makes me cry too. Percocet does unpleasant things in my digestive tract. Laughter is the only one that's "free".
So thanks for that.
And on a slightly more serious note, I've been a bit mean taunting you but if you want a serious dose of vitriolic desperation, not to mention a rather major case of blowing one's cool, all you have to do is look in the nearest mirror.
Chill, just a wee bit.
LaydeeBug
(10,291 posts)Oh, you're just a *scream*. But you've said all of those things, and you damn well know it.
And while I am completely uninterested in any of the things you posted in your first paragraph (can you say TMI? and bizarre?) my advice would be this: if you want to apologize to someone, it's best to just apologize, and not try to throw some back handed insult that just reveals you to be...well vitriolic, desperate, and jealous. But you can pretend it's not *YOU* all you want. I give as good as I get.
I can agree you've been mean. I'll leave it at that.
cali
(114,904 posts)I don't owe you an apology. I don't regret being a tiny bit mean in the face of your nastiness and false accusations. And it doesn't surprise me in the least that you're not "interested" in my first paragraph. But you did give me a laugh or two. You're not even honest enough to admit how angry you are- and it's starkly obvious.
that's enough of this exchange for me. I'm getting bored.

Leave her alone. She's not running for anything right now.
Sometimes DU is maddening. But this pissed me off because it was utterly senseless.

(20,226 posts)I don't understand the point of supporting any candidate without knowing what their positions on issues are. For all we know, Chelsea Clinton might hold positions that you would find completely unacceptable - so might Johnny Depp for that matter. Whether it is Chelsea Clinton or Johnny Depp or some accountant who is active in local politics, I would want to wait and see what her positions on issues are before I even considered thinking about whether or not they should run for office.

(20,226 posts)or will be in the future. Thus there is no rational reason why someone who believes in democratic values should want her to run for office - at least until such time that she does reveal her position on issues or her general political philosophy enough for a person to make a reasonable judgment on whether or not they find her positions on issues and her political philosophy minimally acceptable.

(32 posts)I'm sure she's a great girl, but I just can't relate to her.
She comes from a rich family, with huge amounts of power and influence, the polar opposite of my family.
I question how much she accomplished on her OWN, without all the advantages, money and contacts she had through her family.
Sure she's accomplished more than I ever will, but i'm sure if my parents were Bill and Hillary Clinton I would accomplish a lot too, maybe more?
I would rather see someone in the white house who came from a poor family, no connections, no power, no wealth, no advantages.
Someone who did everything on his or her own merit, who made all the opportunities for themselves. Someone like this would understand the woes of the average working person and would certainly understand how insanely stacked the system is in the favor of money and nepotism.
Sorry, she's not for me.
LaydeeBug
(10,291 posts)rule that out, so I guess we could be talking about POTUS.

Nepotism is a pretty serious charge, but that notwithstanding, Barack Obama's whole point is that NO ONE, not even Chelsea Clinton, got there alone. NO ONE achieves success without help...from a teacher, from a coach, a mentor, a scholarship program, etc. So, um, good luck with that "Holy Grail". I prefer to take mine the same way Dr. King took his: BY THE CONTENT OF THEIR CHARACTER.
