Arguing talking points with your red capped uncle just causes stress with your hosts and gives everyone indigestion. Instead it's perhaps better to agree with him that Trump has indeed done some good things in office.
It's best to point out that he did put the speaker's gavel back in Nancy Pelosi's hands, and for that we can all be thankful. MAGA!

(1,303 posts)stuffing their faces with homemade food that they don't normally get. The last time they were here I went out and bought pizza and hot wings and in the middle of yakking and laughing while we ate, she made that observation.

The rule (as always) was no politics, but Uncle Cranky started complaining about welfare iPhones 10 minutes after he arrived. "hey, that's not politics!". Soon after that everyone got involved on different subjects.
A hot flame burns shorter so we were drained and ready to eat in peace when the turkey popper sprouted. It was a good day. Very few injuries this year too.

(146,338 posts)at family gatherings in my extended family. Oddly enough, we find plenty to talk about anyhow.
There are times when putting aside political differences is a very, very good idea. Families generally have lots of things in common they can talk about. I'm always surprised when argument seems to be preferred by some.
Take a day off from politics today if you'll be with family. That's my advice. Change the subject.

(46,234 posts)my sister's in-laws are Trump fanatics. My sister totally understands my change of heart and isn't mad at me. She wishes we could eat dinner together at a diner or something.
I'm eating meatloaf with no change of blood pressure.

My sister said she understood and as a matter of fact doesn't want to spend the day with *those people* herself. I told her to take her own car.
