Reminder of Al Franken's departure.

Last edited Sat Nov 24, 2018, 02:06 PM - Edit history (3)

As disappointing as some of these names, to me personally, are on this list, it was their choice to sign it.

Here is a list of the Democratic senators and Independents who caucus with the Democrats urging Franken to step aside, as of 5:30 p.m.:

Kristen Gillibrand, New York
Chuck Schumer, New York
Claire McCaskill, Missouri
Patty Murray, Washington
Mazi Keiko Hirono, Hawaii
Maggie Hassan, New Hampshire
Kamala Harris, California
Bob Casey, Pennsylvania
Joe Donnelly, Indiana
Sherrod Brown, Ohio
Heidi Heitkamp, North Dakota
Debbie Stabenow, Michigan
Ed Markey, Massachusetts
Maria Cantwell, Washington
Tammy Baldwin, Wisconsin
Chris Murphy, Connecticut
Tom Udall, New Mexico
Dick Durbin, Illinois
Patrick Leahy, Vermont
Tom Carper, Delaware
Dianne Feinstein, California
Michael Bennet, Colorado
Martin Heinrich, New Mexico
Tammy Duckworth, Illinois
Jeff Merkley, Oregon
Ron Wyden, Oregon
Elizabeth Warren, Massachusetts
Cory Booker, New Jersey

The fact that Gillibrand is number one on the list may or may not have significance I didn’t write the list.

Edited to add Bernie Sanders.

Also added: Nelson, Peters, whitehouse, Tester and King.

Very important reminder from :

Never voted for any of them.

They took the word of Breitbart over Shirley Sherrod too

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Firing_of_Shirley_Sherrod

On July 19, 2010, Shirley Sherrod was fired from her appointed position as Georgia State Director of Rural Development for the United States Department of Agriculture.[1][2] Her firing was an administration reaction to media reports on video excerpts from her address to an event of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People in March 2010 and commentary posted by conservative blogger Andrew Breitbart on his website.[3] Based on these excerpts, the NAACP condemned Sherrod's remarks as racist and US government officials called on the official to resign. However, review of her full speech showed that the excerpts had been selectively edited, and that her remarks – understood in context – were about the importance of overcoming personal prejudices. The NAACP and White House officials then apologized for their earlier criticisms, and United States Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack apologized for the firing and offered Sherrod a new position.

As to defending the others, once Gillibrand got the boulder rolling downward towards AL, there was no stopping it. Franken saw that and did what he believed to be the honorable thing--for the benefit of party.

I think you are overestimating Gillibrand's power and influence. All those Senators called for Franken to resign the same morning, some within minutes, as Gillibrand. This was obviously a pre-planned effort by leadership. Plus Franken had already announced the press conference about his 'political future' the day before.

But you are right. Franken took one for the team and did the honorable thing.

Democratic Sen. Amy Klobuchar, who serves in the Senate representing Minnesota with Al Franken, explained Friday that she didn't publicly ask Franken to resign this week because of their relationship.

"I had condemned his conduct early on when the first allegation was made," she told CNN's Dana Bash on "Inside Politics." "I felt I was in a different role as his colleague, that I'm someone that has worked with him for a long time, there's a lot of trust there, and I felt it was best to handle it in that way."

In a coordinated effort, female Democratic senators called for Franken's resignation in rapid fire Wednesday. Klobuchar did not join in that effort and said in a statement at the time that she spoke with him privately. By Wednesday evening, more than two dozen senators -- including Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer -- had called for Franken's resignation.

"I talked to him about the fact that you had reached the situation with the mounting allegations and the fact that there was an ethics investigation going on," Klobuchar told CNN Friday.

can only divide us. I find the attacks on Gillibrand off putting as pretty much every Senator came out and suggested that Sen. Franken should resign...why single her out? I wouldn't vote for her in a primary because politically I think we need a person from a swing state...but she is a fine Senator.

We will vote for the Democratic candidate. There are way too many great candidates to consider that did not sign the letter to railroad Franken. She may be a fine senator. New York can elect any senator they want. I won't vote for her in a primary. Again there are fab candidates that are not one of those senators. She is being singled out here, not by the members of DU but because donors have the same sentiments as many on this thread. So go fight with them not me. You won't change my mind about this topic. So quit coming at me. Good night.
